We will continue our Bridgewater door knocking this weekend (Aug 1-2) mainly during the 10 AM-1 PM shift on SAT, Aug 1. Three more Bridgewater canvassing shifts are available during 1-4 PM on SAT, Aug 1 AND during 10-1 & 1-4 on SUN, Aug 2. Newcomers are welcome, and they will receive canvassing training.

FOLKS! Are you interested in helping to turn Congress Blue? Then we have some Congressional Districts in New Jersey to flip!

We are looking to train canvassers, telephone bankers, postcard writers, and even drivers about the Congressional candidate running in CD7, Rebecca Bennett.

To flip the house, we must defeat the do nothing, Trump lackey Tom Kean Jr. in NJCD7. The head of the RNC called this race “ Ground Zero for control of Congress.” Rebecca Bennett , the Democratic nominee, has stellar qualifications and is a very strong candidate. Come learn about Rebecca’s positions, Tom Kean’s failings, and why New Jersey needs to elect Rebecca Bennett.

4. CALL TO ACTION. Tell NJ Senators: Oppose a Bloated Trump $1.5T Defense Budget

The House version of H.R.8800, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) budget, passed 216 to 212 with six Democrats voting yes with Republicans and seven Republicans voting no with Democrats.  Speaker Johnson now plans to combine NDAA, the Save America Act and a voter ID bill and send them as one to the Senate to vote on, although the Senate may use their own version of the NDAA, which is S.4784.

The Trump administration is asking Congress to approve $1.5 trillion for the Pentagon budget-the largest inflation – adjusted defense budget in history! It centers around Trump‘s vanity projects and an entanglement with Israel.

H.R. 8800 and S.4784 includes:

• Giving Israel access to American military technology through our own supply chain.

• Renaming the Department of Defense the Department of War for $1.25 million.

• Developing a golden dome missile shield, which would cost 1.2 trillion for a 20 yr use period (the present request is for $17.5 billion).

• Trump‘s new battleships with new weapons platforms (thought by experts to be of little strategic improvement for the Navy).

• Anti-trans amendments for reducing gender-related health care and banning transgender children from sports.

This will be a safe space to process any grief & loss that’s coming up, as well as a space to learn about vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue. Facilitated by Michelle Ward, a trauma-informed therapist, this time together will be one for grounding, mutual support and healthy coping skills building. 4. CALL TO ACTION. Tell NJ Senators: Oppose the Stop Insider Trading Act (HR 7008)

What started as a bipartisan attempt to curb stock trading by members of Congress has turned into a sneakily-bundled weak stock trading ban combined with Trump’s Save America Act’s restrictive Bill’s ID language.  12 Democrats, including Congressman Gottheimer from New Jersey’s fifth district, voted for this combined bill.  While HR 7008 does restrict members of Congress, their spouses and children from purchasing new individual stocks, it does not require elected officials to divest all stock holdings while in office. So it doesn’t ban insider trading of all elected officials, including the President and the VP now.  The House Republicans, hoping to pass Trump’s Save America Act, amended HR 7008 to include parts of HR 9368, the Voter ID Act, sneaking in restrictive voter ID demands.

We need your help to fill backpacks with grade appropriate school supplies for homeless students living in local hotels – the very students you’ve helped support all summer with our Summer Snacks project. We’re currently serving 95 children in grades K-8, ages 5 to 14. Thanks to the generosity of commUNITY SJP, they are providing all the backpacks prefilled with some school items, but they are not everything we need to properly equip our kids. Can you help us?

3. CALL TO ACTION. Tell NJ Senators: Oppose Digital Market Asset Clarity Act (HR 3633)

Last week, a NEW draft of the HR 3633 Clarity Act (that passed the House with bipartisan support earlier in July) will be taken up by the Senate before the August recess.  Because of the changes you will want to ask our Senators to oppose HR 3633.  While the ethics provision appears to bar federal officials, including the President, from involvement in crypto sales until 2029, the revision gives the monitoring of crypto to Trump‘s Department of Justice instead of leaving it with the state attorneys general.  The revised bill replaces the SEC oversight with a more hands-off body, and guts dozens of state consumer fraud protections. It would also hinder investigations of potential money laundering. And we would still have the Trump family’s conflict of interest with crypto. The Trump family made an estimated $2.3 billion from crypto and meme coins.  If the revisions are so good for consumers, why are Trump and crypto companies encouraging these changes?

The Mutual Aide Commitee is working hard to support and get supplies to immigrant families and struggling neighbors. They have been supplying food and daily living necessities. They are now planning on providing all the school age children with backpacks that are stocked with grade-appropriate school supplies. For the third consecutive time the Republicans are trying to pass a Budget Reconciliation legislation.  This $95 billion package contains $60 billion for the Armed Services Committee and #13 billion for the Intelligence Committee for Trumps ongoing war with Iran.  It also includes $10 billion to advance elements of Trumps anti-voter Save America Act, so it funds an unauthorized war and a voter suppression policy.  A floor vote is expected this week.

SOME GREAT NEWS:

We won — and we won together!

Last week, Citizens Bank announced that it will be ending its business relationships with CoreCivic and GEO Group, the corporations responsible for building and maintaining ICE detention facilities marked by horrific, inhumane conditions. The bank tried to frame its decision as a matter of “capital requirements” and even dismissed the role activists played. But let’s be clear: this is a real victory. Our pressure worked. Our voices mattered. And despite what they say publicly, they felt the heat.

To everyone who rallied — in person or in spirit — who made signs, who posted, who talked to neighbors, who refused to look away: thank you. Every action, every share, every conversation helped push this forward. Activism works. As we like to say, don’t get angry, get active.

This was one battle, but the larger fight continues. We need to take back Congress, defend democracy, and begin undoing the damage of the current regime. With Citizens Bank stepping back from these contracts, we’re suspending our periodic rallies and shifting our energy toward the upcoming elections — especially here in NJ‑3, and in potential flip districts NJ‑2 and NJ‑7. The trainings are an hour to an hour and a half. They are not required. You can sign up for Voter Registration without any experience but the training will ensure you are comfortable.

Every year, Congress passes the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) a massive defense bill considered a "must pass" piece of legislation.  Because it moves every year, frequently lawmakers try to slip in other policies that could not pass on their own.  And unfortunately, even under Trump, many Democrats annually rubber stamp this bill.  This year's NDAA of $1.5 trillion would expand military cooperation between the US and Israel and fund a number of Trump's vanity projects!

Call your senators and representative to express you concern about the harmful provisions in the NDAA and the wasteful increase in Pentagon spending. Tell them to oppose the expanded US-Israel defense integration and an unnecessarily bloated 1.5 trillion-dollar defense budget with the inclusion of Trump's vanity projects.  Congress should pass a responsible budget that addresses real security needs.

Citizens Bank Caves!

Today Citizens Bank issued a statement that it plans to "exit the credit facilities" for CoreCivic and GEO. They cited capital requirements as a reason - but we know the truth! Call To Action:    Vote “No” on the Clarity Act  

• President Donald Trump called on the Senate to pass cryptocurrency legislation known as the Clarity Act to honor the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, who died at 71 over the weekend. The Clarity Act is one of the first wide-ranging pieces of legislation that would regulate cryptocurrencies and is backed by the crypto industry and the White House.  Graham’s death could complicate Senate passage of the measure, as it narrows the already-thin Senate Republican majority. It has hit some snags in the Senate, with Democrats pushing for increased ethics guardrails for elected officials like Trump, who has made billions of dollars on digital currencies. If the bill is backed by the crypto industry and the White House it does’t pass the smell test.

Call To Action:   

Since Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) were established in 2003, the agencies have terrorized immigrant communities; conducted unconstitutional border checkpoints; torn apart families; denied immigrants their due process rights; and subjected detained immigrants to physical, sexual, and mental abuse.

High-profile killings like Alex Pretti and Renee Good's in Minnesota began to shine a bright light on these abuses of power.

The following in just July alone - Trump’s ICE Agents ramped up violence have killed:

• A 26-year-old father in Biddeford, Maine.

• Ruben Martinez, a 23-year-old U.S. citizen was shot and died by ICE 

• during a traffic stop in South Padre Island, Texas.

• A 52-year-old father of three in Houston, Texas.

• Today a man, yet to be identified, died running from agents when hit by a tractor trailer in St. Augustine, Florida.

• Yesterday Mexico authorities began filing criminal complaints regarding deaths of multiple Mexican Immigrants in ICE detention centers.

ICE and CBP are now the best-funded law enforcement agencies in the country after being granted over $170 billion through fiscal year 2029 with essentially no guardrails or oversight. That money is fueling a wave of escalating violence. 

Congress must demand full, independent investigations into these killings and call for the abolition of ICE. After two decades and hundreds of billions in funding. This lawless and violent agency cannot continue to operate without terrorizing the communities it claims to serve.

Call To Action:            End the War with Iran

It has been 135 days since the Iran War began on February 28, 2026 without congressional authorization, and the senate now has another opportunity to reassert Congress’s constitutional authority. The War Powers Act of 1973 requires presidents to obtain congressional authorization. Hostilities continue and U.S. forces remain heavily deployed.  Meanwhile, the costs of the conflict continue to mount. The war has disrupted global energy markets, fueled economic uncertainty, and cost taxpayers billions of dollars. Regional tensions remain dangerously high as military operations continue across the Middle East.

 2. Are you interested in doing Voter Registration at colleges (and possibly high schools) for the midterms?  If so, we have 3 Voter Registration Training sessions scheduled at the Burlington County Board of Elections, 301 Harper Drive, Moorestown.

July 28, July 29 and August 3- all at 10:00am. 

The trainings are an hour to an hour and a half. They are not required. You can sign up for Voter Registration without any experience but the training will ensure you are comfortable.

If you do end of signing up for a Voter Registration Drive and have never done it before, please shoot me an email so we make sure there are experienced people with you. We don’t want 3 newbies on a shift.

Call Your Reps to Oppose Withdrawl from NATO

Trump has spent years criticizing the North Atlantic Trade Organization (NATO), and as president he has repeatedly floated the idea of U.S. withdrawl. In recent months, Trump’s anger over allies who refused to join his war with Iran has led him to carry out petty public feuds with European leaders and muse about cutting U.S. forces in Europe. He also used the summit to reaffirm his desire to take control of Greenland, again suggesting that the U.S. could pull all of its troops out of Europe if NATO “wouldn’t go along with it.” 

As Trump continues to sow discord and undermine U.S. commitment to NATO, Congress must use its power to preserve this important alliance, especially when unified support remains critical for Ukraine and broader European security.

We're going to have plenty to celebrate and I want to do a huge bash, but I absolutely cannot do it unless I get a lot of volunteers to help. 

Think about what you think you can do. I'm going to have lots of committees.

I would need 3-4 people to volunteer for each aspect with one person being the main contact person.

I will not do this unless everyone is willing to help. I got completely overwhelmed planning the Townhall in February 2017. I'm not going to do that again. I've learned how to delegate. I'm going to discuss this at the July 13 meeting and then send out sign-up sheets. Again, I think it would be a blast, but it will require a lot of people to volunteer. It's really up to all of you. 

If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen.

Support Congressional Redistricting in New Jersey

There was once broad support for the creation of a bipartisan New Jersey redistricting commission to provide a fair and independent process. However, fair government only works when all sides respect the same democratic principles. Across the nation, increasingly aggressive partisan gerrymandering efforts threaten equal representation and undermine public confidence in our electoral system.

NJ voters have the opportunity to tell their state legislators and Gov. Sherrill to amend the State Constitution and suspend the current New Jersey Redistricting Commission, which is not scheduled to convene until 2030.  Placing this issue on the ballot will allow the people of New Jersey to decide whether congressional districts should be redrawn in time for the 2028 elections.

As witnesses and advocates, we are likely to be experiencing collective trauma. In response to these recent events, Indivisible is offering a dedicated online support space for local community activists. This will be a safe space to process any grief & loss that’s coming up, as well as a space to learn about vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue. Facilitated by Michelle Ward, a trauma-informed therapist, this time together will be one for grounding, mutual support and healthy coping skills building. This virtual offering occurs on the second Thursday of each month, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, Eastern Time. Registration information via a Mobilize link will be provided monthly.

2. WE'RE HERE AND WE'RE QUEER RALLY FOR LGBQTIA+ AND ALLIES!

This week, Trump-installed sycophants to legislate transgender people and the rest of the LGBTQIA+ community out of existence and push our youth further into the shadows, causing intentional and unnecessary harm to their families and communities. In a 6-3 decision, the justices have further greenlit discrimination of not just transgender youth but all LGBTQIA+ people and it empowers states across the country to pass legislation targeting transgender youth and the LGBTQIA+ community at large. 

Cooper River Indivisible is hosting a rally in support of the LGBTQIA+ community this Sunday, July 5, from 10:00 am - noon. Please bring signs, flags, clothing, or anything else you may need to demonstrate your solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community. This demonstration is welcome to all members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies.

1. SCOTUS just ruled that states may bar transgender girls and women from playing on school sports teams that match their gender identity: The decision in West Virginia v. B.P.J. will have far-reaching, dangerous consequences for trans youth across the U.S. Studies show anti-trans politics severely harm LGBTQ+ youth well-being and spike suicide attempts.

As Indivisible members and allies, you can take action right now:

• Connect with a local PFLAG chapter for support and advocacy networks here

• Donate to groups like The Campaign for Southern Equality’s Trans Youth Project or Advocates for Trans Equality

• Demand congressional action by organizing a local district office visit.

2. Defend Disability Rights Against DOJ's Attack

For nearly 27 years, the Supreme Court’s landmark 1999 decision in Olmstead v. L.C. has protected Americans with disabilities from being forced into institutional care and nursing homes against their will, affirming their right to live independently in their own communities. Last week, the Trump Department of Justice (DOJ) quietly released a memo undermining that decision and arguing that Olmstead and related disability rights laws actually contribute to homelessness. Legal experts say the claim is not supported by the facts or by virtually any court, and the DOJ’s own memo acknowledged that their interpretation is “out of step” with legal consensus.

While the memo itself does not change the law, it signals a dangerous shift in how the Trump administration intends to treat disability rights protections. Following its release, HHS quietly took down its webpage on Olmstead and community living. Without federal enforcement of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act—the laws that underpin Olmstead—states will no longer face consequences for institutionalizing disabled people against their will. This could allow states to effectively re-segregate people with disabilities, reversing decades of progress toward community integration. Combined with the administration’s sweeping Medicaid cuts, which are eliminating home and community-based services that allow disabled people to live independently, this could force millions of Americans back into the kind of institutional settings that Olmstead was designed to end.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) has introduced a resolution calling on the Trump administration to rescind the DOJ memo, reaffirm the protections of Olmstead, and reverse Medicaid cuts that are pushing disabled Americans toward institutionalization. Call your representatives in Congress to support this resolution, and urge your Governor to maintain full enforcement of the ADA and Rehabilitation Act in your state.
