Duplicating your site is useful when you want to:
Create a backup before making major changes
Build a similar site without starting from scratch
Experiment with new layouts while preserving the original
Google Sites does not offer a one-click “duplicate” feature within the editor.
You’ll need to manually copy content or use the “Make a copy” option in Google Drive for the site’s folder.
Embedded third-party content or complex scripts may not copy perfectly.
Make sure to review copyright permissions on copied content.
⚠️ This method works only for Classic Google Sites (legacy sites). If you are using the new Google Sites, skip to Method 2.
Go to Google Drive.
Locate your Classic Google Site folder. It appears as a folder labeled with your site’s name.
Right-click the folder and select “Make a copy.”
A duplicate folder will appear named “Copy of [Your Site Name].”
Open the copied folder and access the duplicated site.
Rename and edit the copy as needed.
Since the new Google Sites does not support direct duplication:
Open your original site in the Google Sites editor.
Create a new blank Google Site in the same or another Google account.
Manually copy each page’s content:
Text: Select and copy-paste
Images: Download from original site and re-upload
Embed codes: Copy from original site’s embed widget and paste into new site
Rebuild your navigation menu and page hierarchy.
Review and update any permissions or sharing settings.
Preview and publish the new site.
Large sites with many pages will require patience when copying manually.
Check all links and embedded content on the new site to ensure they work correctly.
Ensure you have permission to copy copyrighted materials or media.
Back up your original site by exporting content when possible (Google Takeout or manual backups).
