The Outlast Trials continues to be a heavy inspiration for me - finding it at a time where horror games kind of just weren't enough for a while, and especially when I had been going through a not-so-great period of my life.
My primary love is horror movies - and the OUTLAST series is the closest I've experienced with a video game to get that same visceral excitement.
Horror inspires me, it drives me, it fuels me. Some of my favorite themes are exploring the line between illness and sanity, and the mundane horrors of humans over beasts or beasts. OUTLAST continues to hit all the tropes that set off that trigger in me. Use of real-life events, from conspiracy theories to actual atrocities engage the detective in my brain and makes me want to uncover more.
As a low-vis content creator, it feels amazing to see creative work recognized - especially over gameplay clips! - and the push to put my work out there in the hopes that it leads to something fulfilling overpowers the abject terror in the vulnerability of it. (My favorite comments are those that wonder if it's "real" or not.)
So more importantly, if anyone at Red Barrels is reading this:
