The Singing Map is concieved of as a living archive and Open Online learning Community (OOC) for culture bearers, students and teachers in music education at all levels. Users will travel virtually from Greenland to Finland to connect to, learn about, and become an active part of music-making in their local communities and beyond. The platform will serve to inspire and engage learners with the rich diversity of living singing traditions both old and new that co-exist in the Nordic region today. This specially adapted digital learning tool aims to build communities, chart current Nordic Indigenous and traditional singing practices, and act as a shared learning platform between Nordic Higher Education institutions for collaborative development and dissemination of learning materials.

Harnessing Google Maps technology, the platform design will allow users to navigate and explore the sound of diverse music communities from close to home or far afield. The Map will also encorporate social media formats so that users and content creators can generate their own profiles, link to people, places, music and events, and message other people within the online community. User-generated content will allow the platform to grow and develop organically, building a dynamic and ever more nuanced document of living cultural traditions.
