Hello Sinai & Lake Campbell Congregations,
Most of you know me, but for those that do not, my name is Alex DeGroot. I have been a part of the Lake Campbell congregation since I was born at Lake Campbell. I left Brookings to attend Augustana University in 2016 and have now moved back to Brookings. Though I am still very young, Augustana gave me several opportunities to use my faith to build leadership skills through leading youth lock-ins, leading Bible studies, and planning and organizing faith fest for a two day faith excursion on our campus. These experiences will help guide me on my journey as the Faith Formation Director.Â
I am so excited to get started in my role with the churches as the Faith Formation Director because I have been positively impacted by the work of prior directors that led me on my faith journey. A large part of my faith journey began with a personal invitation by a caring director to attend a Wednesday night group, which encouraged me to reconnect with the church and youth that I had missed due to weekend sports tournaments. From those Wednesday night conversations, my faith grew immensely and only continued to grow in college through the many student ministry groups on campus. Because of my experience with a forgiving, faithful individual, I value the importance of meeting individuals where they are in their faith journey and in life just like that director did for me.
