Welcome to the first lesson of lower intermediate!
In this lesson, you will be learning about reading. You are going to be presented with two version of reading passage, they are Hanzi and PinYin version. There will be also the English version for some passages. You will also be having some short quizzes to test you understanding!

(How many family members do you have?)
Ali : 五个人。 有爸爸，妈妈，两个 妹妹 和我。
wu ge ren. you ba ba, ma ma, liang ge mei mei he wo.
(5 people. There are father, mother, two sisters and I.)
Mary : 你妹妹今年几岁？
ni mei mei jin nian ji sui?
(How old are your sisters this year?)
Ali : 一个十岁，一个六岁，还没上小学。
yi ge shi sui, yi ge liu sui, hai mei shang xiao xue.
(One is ten years old, the other is six years old, hasn't started school yet.)
Mary : 你爸爸做什么工作？
ni ba ba zuo shen me gong zuo?
(What does your father do?)
Ali : 我爸爸是个医生。 他每天都很忙。
wo ba ba shi ge xian sheng. ta mei tian dou hen mang.
(My father is a doctor. He is very busy everyday.)

九月五号是 Mary 的生日。 她请 Ali 和 Lily 去参加她的生日会。九月五号是星期六。 Lily 和Ali还没买礼物。Lily 说，“那明天下午我们一起去买吧！”. 他们想买个新背包送给她。 他们明天下午要去买礼物。
September 5th is Mary's birthday. She invites Ali and Lily to her birthday party. September 5th is Saturday. Lily and Ali have not bought her present yet. Lily says, "Let's go and buy a present together tomorrow afternoon!". They want to buy a new backpack for her. They will meet tomorrow afternoon to buy the present.
3. Read the conversation between Xiao Ming and Xiao Hong below.
小 明：小 红, 你 妈妈 做菜 可 真 好吃。
(Xiao Hong, your mother’s cooking is really delicious.)
小 红：是 啊，我 妈妈 是 厨师。
(Yes! My mother is a chef.)
小 明：真 的 吗？你 妈妈 在 哪里 工作？
(Really? Where does your mother work?)
小 红：她 在 一 个 西 餐厅 工作，她 做 的 牛排 特别 好吃。
(She works at a western restaurant. She can make a really good steak!)
小 明：那个 西 餐厅 在 哪？我想 和 女朋友 一起 去 吃。
(Where is this western restaurant? I want to take my girlfriend there.)
小 红：就 在 市中心。
(It’s in the city centre.)
