Basic Structure ( General)
Subject + Adverb (time/ place) + Verb + Object
*Adverb may be put before the subject
Past Tense
了 le (after verb)
Example:
我 昨 天 买 了 一 本 书。
wo zuo tian mai le yi ben shu
(I bought a book yesterday.)
要 yao (before verb)
Example:
明 天 他 要 买 一 本 书
ming tian ta yao mai yi ben shu
(He is going to buy a book tomorrow.)
Negative sentence
不 bu (before verb)
Example:
我不喜欢这个
wo bu xi huan zhe ge
(I don’t like this)
Interrogative Sentence
Here are some grammar to help you making interrogative sentences. Pay attention carefully!
Yes/no question : add 吗 (ma)
你是玛丽吗?是,我是。/不,我不是
Ni shi Ma Li ma? Shi, Wo shi. / bu, wo bu shi.
(Are you Mary? Yes, I am / No, I am not)
What : add 什么 (shénme)
你叫什么名字?
Nǐ jiào shénme míngzì
(What is your name?)
Where: add 在哪里上 (zài nǎlǐ)
你在哪里上学?
Nǐ zài nǎlǐ shàngxué
(Where do you go to school?)
Why : add 为什么 (wèishéme)
你为什么不回家?
Nǐ wèishéme bù huí jiā?
(Why don't you go home?)
Who : add 谁 (shéi)
你的老师是谁?
Nǐ de lǎoshī shì shéi?
(Who is your teacher?)
When: add 什么时候 (shénme shíhòu)
你什么时候毕业?
Nǐ shénme shíhòu bìyè?
(When will you graduate?)
How many : add 几 (jǐ)
你家有几个人?
Nǐ jiā yǒu jǐ gèrén?
(How many people are there in your family?)
