The Nobility are the elite of Simmonarchy. They hold great power over their own territories and subjects and have a considerably easier time gaining power on the national stage.
There are several noble titles that can be granted to people at the behest of the King or another noble:
Knight: A knighthood can be given for great services for the Kingdom. A knight is usually a top military commander and is usually given land of some form however this is not guaranteed. May use the prefix Sir. May be given the title by the King (role: Imperial Knight) or by a Duke (roles: Noble Knight). Not hereditary and members of a knights family may not use any title.
Baron: Barons are lesser nobles. They may be granted the title for being extremely loyal to the crown or being a top member of their respective fields. There is two types of Barons. Hereditary (given a small gift of land and may be inherited by children. Children may use the style "the Honourable") and Non-Hereditary (no land given and cannot be inherited.). Hereditary Baronies may be granted to someone by the King and Non-Hereditary Baronies may be granted to someone by a Duke. They are styles "The Lord (name)" (Hereditary) or "The Right Honourable" (Non-Hereditary)
Earldoms: Earls are respected members of the upper nobility. They are true aristocrats and are given a number of rights and privileges within the Kingdom. They have the right to serve in an Estates General King Appointed Seat. The are also the lowest rank of nobles that may have subjects below themselves. They are usually close advisors to the King and usually serve in top level government jobs. Children may use the title "Lord" or "Lady". They are styled "(Name), The Earl of (Area)" or "My Lord" or "(Name), The Countess of (Area) or "My Lady". This title may be granted by the King only.
Dukedoms: The highest rank of Nobility. These people are Heads of the Great Houses. There can only ever be 3 Dukes at any time. They are the most powerful nobles in the Kingdom and are usually in a delicate balance of power with the King. The expect a high ranking government job or an Estates General seat. They own a vast amount of land and rule over a number of subjects. Children may use the Style "Lord" or "Lady" and the heir to the title must be granted an Earldom. They are styled "His Grace, (Name) (House), The Duke of (Area)" or "Her Grace, (name) (house), The Duchess of Area" or "your Grace". This title may not be granted to anyone by the King as the titles in existence have been around long then time itself.
