1st idea: We want to include artistic features and want to do something other than focusing on computers. We also want to do programming but Hannah wants the people to be able to interact with the project offline. Anastasia wants to make an adventure game, so we suggest of making a big room filled with interactive objects like an escape room and let the audience to play inside it. Our game (yet unnamed) is set in a futuristic dystopia where humans have been replaced by robots. The protagonist, a robot suspicious of their origins, goes on a journey of identity and self discovery and must utilize his/her problem solving skills within a set time limit to find out the truth about themselves and what they've become.
2nd idea: We decided to make an adventure story about a gender-free robot in the future. The game will be progressed in a room with objects that can be used as a clue or as a help to the story line. The room is going to be filled with music -for storytelling- and art. There will be a projector. The story is about a human who became a robot because of the oppressive government. It is a hopeful story about finding its identity and in the middle of story, there will be some action challenges. If the player fail at the challenges more than three times, we will give the player the last opportunity to revive. There will be 3 endings. The good ending is when they know the truth, the neutral ending is when they return to their regular lives or be convinced by the government. The bad ending is when they die.
HW: Create a story board with drawing and explanation.
We decided to divide the storyline into three and work on the scenarios correspondingly.
Anastasia: intro
Me: Middle(Actions and stuff)
Arabelle: Endings
A robot is working as a sanitation worker under a human-run oppressive government when they stumble across something they shouldn't have seen: a dying "robot." Usually, when a robot gets old and worn out, they're sent to a secluded garbage dump where they can die without being discovered, however, this one slipped through the cracks. If anyone from the government found out that the robot saw someone dying, the robot would be carted off to the dumpster (which is why it's crucial that it's kept secret from the right people). This sparks curiosity in the robot which leads to the official start of the quest.
The player escapes from the robot shelter. Gets chased by robots and etc. (Hide and seek can be included) If success at tricking, walk around and meet a women, a stranger. If fail, go to the trash zone(?) in the shelter and meet bunch of fellow worn out robots. Then meet a fellow robot and know a little about the situation. If choose to follow the women, eventually you get to live in her garage and get to have a chance to look around the garage, like looking for clues. If you don't choose to follow the women, keep getting chased by robots. If fail, trash zone. If success, go back to shelter. In the garage, you get to find out something suspicious about her. Choose to run away or not. If run away, player will either get caught and go to trash zone(same but without the fellow robot), or survive and go back to shelter(same). If the player doesn't run away, he/she gets to choose to ask the woman about it or not. If don't ask, start the journey alone(same outcome as running away?). If ask, get the answer: She saw a robot die. She tried to hide you. She was afraid if you will run away. Choose to be companions or get out(same outcome?). If you are alone and in the trash zone, fight OUTSIDE w/ robots, helicopters, etc and find out the truth. If you are alone and in the shelter, be like a spy and find out the truth. If w/ woman, find out that you can live and feel like human and find out the truth; you will also fight OUTSIDE and be pretend to be a normal person/ be like a spy. If w/ fellow robot, you can get out of trash zone/ stay until you see worn out robots die/make a foolish attempt to save them(?). Then follow the fellow and form a clan of robots and rebel -> war.
The woman will die and fellow robot will die in a high chance. If alone, it will be harder to fight for truth.
Potential Scenarios- (unordered)
After being caught investigating (snooping through classified info? Found in an unauthorized location?), they are taken in to be investigated. The humans leading this operation want to figure out exactly how much the player knows, so they are interrogated. Player has dialogue options that they choose from and depending on the choices they make, the game takes a complete turn:
Death- they are deemed too knowledgable or anger those in charge. They are promptly executed
Return to Lies- the interrogators decide to spare them, but due to suspicions, they are constantly monitored and tracked when they are sent back. (You won’t be figuring anything out for a long time…)
Continue On- Player is deemed harmless, and a misunderstanding is decided to have occurred. Player is told lies upon release that they now see clearly through. When they are left by the officials, the investigation can commence
In the midst of the investigation, an alarm is triggered, or guards alerted. You hear them coming so… (Timed Decision)
Stay and Fight- This results in Death. You are largely outnumbered, have never been in a violent situation before, and the guards are armed. You are shot, identified, and known associates killed and/or questioned.
Hide- If you choose this option, you can Continue On. You dive behind an abnormally large and odd statue, The officials are lazy and decide to report this as a false alarm to their superiors without thorough investigation.
Run- You end up running into a random hallway, frenzied. They catch up to you, and you...
Scream at them: GET OFF ME (etc.). This annoys the soldiers and they decide to simply shoot you. The events following are similar to those in the Stay and Fight.
Play Dumb and Beg: Act like a simple servant automaton who heard the sirens and panicked. They’ll be disgusted and insult/ridicule you, but you’re released when they lose interest. Continue on
