Silvia Gazzola

I am a senior lecturer (associate professor) in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Bath. I am also a member of University of Bath Centre for Mathematics and Algorithms for Data and I am serving as an Executive Member of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics (SAMBa).

My research focuses on inverse problems, i.e., those problems that recover quantities of interest from indirect measurements thereof. Inverse problems arise in many applications, for instance when reconstructing a medical image from a medical scan. I devise new efficient algorithms for large-scale inverse problems that exploit tools at the interface of numerical linear algebra and optimization.

Before joining Bath I was a PostDoc in the BASP group at Heriot-Watt University. I earned a PhD in Computational Mathematics at the University of Padova.
