This year, we have 9 clubs participating in a round robin league. Similar to last year, due to the odd number of teams, we will schedule it as 9 rounds. Each round will have 8 teams competing in 4 separate sets of head to head contests, with the 9th club sitting out and acting as a host.
There is a guide for players, which hosts may want to be familiar with. Particularly if they are unfamiliar with the format.
The host is responsible for providing a qualified Tournament Director (TD). The TD will enforce the LAWS of duplicate bridge, management the movement and scoring, and issue rulings fairly and efficiently.
It is intended that the matches be electronically scored using EBUTeams. The guide for installing and using EBUTeams to score the matches is here. The host needs to be familiar with this. The host may opt for manual scoring if they are more comfortable with it. Regardless, for backup purposes, they should issue score sheets and pencils for player's use.
The host is responsible for making sure that the venue is ready for the round. If there is some issue, please try to resolve it yourself. If in doubt, you can always rent a room from SCBA at Bishan, but please do this ahead of time.
There will be a "captains" whatsapp set up for coordination purposes. You should refer to it for any coordination and to send results post-game.
8 tables will be needed. If space permits, a table for the tournament director (TD).
A TD will be required. The onus is on the host to provide a qualified TD. The festival does not supply nor pay for a TD.
As there are 4 head to head team matches, it is recommended that the host provide at least 2 sets of duplicated boards, to be shared. If the host is unable to do so, please ask for help.
It is highly recommended that the hosts label the seats on the tables so that players know where to sit, to avoid confusion. See below for a seating guide.
Despite electronic scoring, it is strongly recommended that clubs supply stationary to all players. This will allow them to record their contracts and result independently, as well as any other information. This will help in any disputes. It will also serve as a backup in the unlikely case that the electronic scoring fails. The host should provide a scoring form so that players can do this recording. Click here for a sample.
At a minimum, you should provide water. Last year, some of the hosts also provided lunch and/or refreshment - this is not mandatory but clearly welcome. Again, this is at the option of the host, not the festival.
The host will need to send the overall results and hand records to the captains whatsapp for dissemination. There is no requirement to calculate the VP score. That will be calculated by the maintainer of this site.
The host will need to monitor the game and report any incidents. This includes penalties for late coming, misbehavior and disputes which the captains may want to escalate. See this document sections 7 to 10.
Each team has a team number - assigned for the duration of the tournament. See fixtures.
Using the example for session 1 of 9 movement as a guide.
You have 4 team matches. This translates to (where the first named team is the "home" team), following the team numbering in the fixtures link.
5 v 6 on tables 1 and 2 == SRC v CSC
4 v 7 on tables 3 and 4 == GWBC v NUSS
3 v 8 on tables 5 and 6 == NUSBC v AWA
2 v 9 on tables 7 and 8 == TC v XMM
The host is team 1 (GWBC).
The guide to electronic scoring is here.
