Understanding Scholarships
In general, scholarships are free money. Students will typically need to fill out an application and some scholarships will also require an essay. Scholarships often have specific criteria that students have to meet in order to apply, such as being in the top 50% of your class or belonging to a certain club or organization. It is important that you read the directions of any scholarship you wish to apply for and familiarize yourself with the requirements. Here is a great article about understanding different types of scholarships from FAFSA.

Tips:
Always use pen if you are filling out a paper copy of a scholarship
Make sure you know what each scholarship requires and do not forget a part
If you need a letter of recommendation, always give the recommender at least a two week window to get it written.
Make sure you know where to return the scholarship
Do not cross out mistakes, have misspellings, and have someone you trust look it over before submitting
