WHAT IS EMPOWER?
Have you ever wondered what college is like? Are you interested in pursuing a career in STEM but still unsure what major to choose? Want to engage in hands on workshops that teach engineering principles? Every year the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at UCSD hosts the Empower High School Conference to inspire high school students to follow a career in the STEM field. At EMPOWER, participants will have the opportunity to network with UCSD students and faculty, engage in hands-on engineering workshops, and also learn about the many opportunities that a STEM degree can provide.

This year SHPE UC San Diego is partnering up with other SHPE Chapters from San Diego State University & University of Arizona to provide the best prizes to YOU 4 FREE!!
Raffle Prizes will be awarded randomly by a point system
1 point awarded per sign-up of each Panel during day of event, so the more panels you attend & participate the higher chances of winning!!

Hands-On-Activity
SHPE UCSD is jointly working with Project In A Box UCSD to bring students a FREE Engineering Hands-on-Project that will be built alongside during our Tech Workshop while other Panels occur during the day of the event!
There will be only a limited amount of projects sent out so fill it as soon as possible to guarantee you will get one!

Activities
The event will feature keynote speakers who range from multiple University Students, UCSD Faculty as well as Industry Professionals who will be going over STEM & College Life related Q&A workshops.

Waivers
Participating in EMPOWER means agreeing to waiver terms of Media Release and Liability Read over forms before participating in the event.

ABOUT SHPE @ UCSD
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers chapter at UC San Diego was established in 1986. The purpose was originally to create a medium in which the small population of Hispanic/Latino students studying engineering at the university could network with other Hispanic engineers in the area. It was soon apparent that networking was just one of the many benefits that SHPE would provide to students. The role of the chapter has evolved to where it currently serves as a way for students to receive tips and encouragement for academic and professional success.

WHEN IS THE EVENT?
Empower High School Conference 2021 will take place Saturday, April 24th, 2021 through Zoom starting @10am

DO I HAVE TO REGISTER TO ATTEND?
Yes! We will be selecting participants for this year's Raffle Winner on a first come first serve basis. Registration is now open! You can register here!
CAN I LEAVE EARLY?
We ask that you stay for the entire event since we want to be respectful to our guest speakers and workshop leaders. If you have to leave early due to an emergency, we ask that you mention to event organizer.
WHAT WILL THE CONFERENCE CONSIST OF?
The conference will consist of Live Panels from Engineering Students, Faculty Professors and Company Representatives guest speakers, and lots of interaction between you and other students.
HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO PARTICIPATE?
Registration is open to students in grades 9 through 12, but anyone interested in STEM or higher education are welcome!
CAN MY LITTLE SIBLING COME?
If your sibling is interested in higher education or STEM and has access to Zoom they are welcome! Just make sure to register separately.
I AM NOT HISPANIC, CAN I STILL ATTEND EMPOWER 2021?
Virtual EMPOWER 2021 is open to everyone and we encourage all who are interested to come check out the amazing activities we have in store for students!
WHAT IF I DON’T KNOW ANYONE?
Don't worry! You will meet people there who share similar interests as you! Our many volunteers will also be glad to get to know you.
WHAT IF I CAN'T ATTEND THE SCHEDULED TIMES?
All Panels will be recorded and posted at a later date in this same page so that if you weren't able to attend you won't miss any important information!
WHERE CAN I GET A COPY OF THE WAIVERS?
You can get both waivers here. Don't forget to go over them with your parent/guardian! Accessing EMPOWER 2021 will mean you (and your parents if you are under 18 years of age) have agreed to both forms as we will be recording all event sessions.
