I had to make VFX in Unity for a different subject at the same time.
It was actually really nice to switch between Unity and Unreal, because it let me grasp the limitations and possibilities of both engines.
Unity felt more beginner friendly with it's simple UI, which helped me understand and navigate through a node system better.
Unreal felt a little overwhelming, but that only makes sense with how precise you can tweak effects.
My experience in Unity beforehand was only a few basic particle systems, so I learned a lot about shaders.
