Here you can see the results of my optimization. If you want to see more of a specific topic you can click in the menu.
I measured in 3 regions: the winter forest, the puzzle room and the treasure area
It contains photos of:
Before I started optimizing
After lighting bake, collision edit and scene cleanup
After adding LOD's, compressing textures and adding more lights
!! One thing to take into account: on some screenshots I didn't use the stat FPS command, which means some screenshots aren't equal.
I got to try out many optimization techniques. Even though, my scene already ran smooth it was nice to see it could still be improved on. Even now I haven't reached the ultimate optimized form, but I've done plenty experiments and I think that's good enough for now.
I was surprised baking the light could have such a drastic effect on the scene. It's definitely a topic I want to learn more about and practice more with, because it's such a crucial thing in a scene.
I think what could've gotten better was the documenting part. I have this habit of grinding away and not taking the break to jot down what I just did. I ended up spending quite a lot of time trying to figure out what it was I did.
