There are a few different methods you may use to build a shot list. You may simply type each entry while in Edit mode.
You may bring in a block of cells from a spreadsheet: Use Edit menu >Paste Special.
You may use the File menu>Create new entries from switcher signals or Create new entries from number keys to create a shot list on the fly. Timecode, shot duration, and the selected camera are recorded with each new entry. When new entries are being created from switcher signals, you may enter shot descriptions as they happen. However, text entry may be interrupted when a new entry is created.
Entering data in ShotDriver:
• Enter edit mode by clicking the "Edit" button, or by double-clicking on any field in the shot list. Note that when you're in Edit mode the "Enable switcher advance" checkbox is automatically disabled.
• Paste a block of Excel cells directly into ShotDriver using the Edit menu>Paste special command. This command expects the three basic columns: shot number, camera, and description.
• Enter consecutive numbers for shot numbers. You may use decimal or alphabetic suffixes (i.e. 24.2, 24b or 24-b).
Messages may be sent to all clients, or to one camera operator only
• Any non-numeric shot number entry is considered a message. Messages are sent automatically following a numbered shot. In other words, each numbered shot may also include additional shot list entries consiting of additional messages to the team.
For example, a shot entry "35, camera 7, Head to toe two shot" may be followed with an entry with a "*" in the shot number column and "Scene 2" in the description. So when shot 35 is taken it will be followed by a message to all clients "Scene 2."
Shots where "ISO" or "*" is used in the shot number column AND a camera number is specified, will send a message to a single camera's receiver. In other words, any client who is looking at camera view for camera 5 will see message entries for camera 5 only.
Any letters (such as "ISO"), special characters (i.e."*") or the number 0 are acceptable in the shot number field to signify a message. For example, at the top of a show file you can have a sequence of eight entries, all with shot zero, giving preset descriptions for each camera. All of these are sent together as the first data in the sequence.
• Alternate shots, where two cameras are directed to cover the same shot, are entered with two numbers in the camera field separated by a slash. The shot will appear in the camera views for both cameras.
• Add a still image to an entry by clicking in the image column, and choosing an image. Images may also be pasted, and are placed in the same folder as the ShotDriver script file, and named "Shot nnn still," where nnn is the shot number.
• Use the File menu command "Notate shot for review" or its keyboard equivalent: Command/K to quickly add a notation with the current time in the note column of the current shot.
•The Note column is intended for the Director's or A.D.'s notes. Entries in this column are not sent (as part of Camera View or List View) to clients.
• Use the "Preferred view" tab in Preferences to show and hide certain columns. You can also click on the dividing lines between columns on the list header, and drag the column widths to your desired locations. Record your preferred view of the list by clicking on the yellow button in the Preferences Preferred view tab.
PRINTING A SHOT LIST:
• Highlight individual cameras for printing using the Highlight menu. Highlight colors may be assigned in the Preferences window> Highlight colors tab. You may highlight any number of cameras. There is a "Clear all highlights" command at the bottom of the Highlight menu. Highlights are not saved with the shot list file. Close and re-open a file to restore the alternating light blue default background colors.
• When you initiate a print operation, you will rearrange the current column view and column widths for printing.
The shot list will print exactly as it appears on screen, adjusted to fit the width of the page. The height of each line is set for both screen display and printing in the Preferences window, General tab: Shot list line height (in pixels). Use the File menu> Page setup command to set the orientation of the page, etc.
Click on a dividing line between columns and drag to resize column widths. Note that hidden columns may be revealed when you resize columns. It's best to work from right to left arranging column widths. Use the entire width of the list to assure the printed output will use the entire width of the page.
•When you print a shot list, page markers are automatically added to the shotlist, which are also saved with the file.
•Use the menu command File>Clear page numbers to clear previously recorded page numbers. Also, if the line-height of the shot list is changed, the page numbers are automatically erased.
