Processing Books - Looking to help out at school but don't know how? Do you love books? Does sticking on spine labels, barcodes, and library card pockets on books in the "school library with the most potential on the west side" (my quote) sound like fun to you?
We have over 500 books that need to be processed and added to our system. But that takes a lot of time and is tedious work to do alone. But if we do it together it will be fun!
Let me know if you are interested.
Shelving Books -
We host at least one book fair a year. The kids love it and we get to raise money to buy books for our library! We will need volunteers for set up, during open hours (running the cash register, on the floor helping kids locate books, and generally keeping an eye on them), as well as take down at the end of the fair.
If you want to be part of the team that helps run this event and fundraiser let me know. Thanks!
At the moment we aren't accepting bulk donations of books for the library. However we have a "Little Library" located at the front of the school, and it is quite popular among our families. Leave a book(s) or take a book!
*But* we are looking for more current books in Spanish. As we focus on learning more Spanish at school we want to grow our Spanish collection as well. We are accepting donations of books in Spanish of all levels in good condition (paper backs ok too).
I would love to introduce you to our school bookstore
Short Avenue Reads! at bookshop.org.
Get great book recommendations from our school librarian, help support local bookstores AND 10% of the sales will go directly to our school library to help buy new books for all our students to enjoy. You can even buy books through our bookstore that aren't on our list and still have 10% of your purchases go to our school library!
Win-Win-Win.
All the books in our bookstore are books we would love to have for our own school library. Please consider either donating your copy when you are done, or purchasing a copy directly for the library (if possible choose hardcovers for donations). Don't worry about buying copies we might have already, we would love to have multiple copies of popular books (I'm talking to you Dog Man, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and ALL graphic novels!). We truly appreciate your help in creating the best little school library on the west side.
THANKS!
