National Rifle Association (NRA)

The NRA has been the gold standard in fighting for gunowner’s rights since November 17, 1871.  Dismayed by the lack of marksmanship shown by their troops, Union veterans Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate formed the National Rifle Association.

It has evolved since then by taking its place in Washington D.C. as a strong lobby group that opposes ant-gun politics.

Although recently plagued by controversial administration practices, the NRA continues to be the most well known leader in its cause.

Gun Owners of America (GOA)

Gun Owners of America (GOA) was founded in 1976 by California State Senator H. L. Richardson. The GOA lobbies both state and federal legislatures to promote Second Amendment rights.  The GOA is considered the  “no compromise” lobby group and has, at times, been known to oppose and often take a stronger stance than the NRA's, on certain gun issues.

The GOA is coupled with the Gun Owners Foundation which is an educational nonprofit foundation. It acts as the research arm for GOA.

The Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA)

The TFA is an organization based in Nashville with chapters throughout the state of Tennessee.  Executive Director John Harris is an active lawyer that maintains the fight for Tennesseans gun rights.

Founded in 1995, the Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA) was established as a response to the then-newly amended civilian handgun permit law, which like many new firearm’s laws in Tennessee, have to be “redefined” by updated legislation before they become understandable and effective.

The TFA can be likened to our state’s own NRA / GOA, a much needed organization to keep our gun rights intact.

The Second Amendment Foundation

As taken directly off their web site, see below.

We are dedicated to promoting a better understanding about our Constitutional heritage to privately own and possess firearms. To that end, we carry on many educational and legal action programs designed to better inform the public about the gun control debate.

The Firearms Policy Coalition

FPC   is the nation’s first and largest public interest legal team focused on the right to keep and bear arms, and the leader in the Second Amendment litigation and research space. The primary objective of our legal action programs is to bring cases that protect your rights and property, restore individual liberty, and help us achieve our purpose to create a world of maximal individual liberty.

OTHERS

This is just a small sampling of the numerous gun rights groups throughout our country.  More can be found with an internet search.  I will update this page to add some more in the future.

This is a long but somewhat interesting comparison of a wide variety of self defense ammunition fired into ballistic gel. There is a concise explanation of the how and why the tests were done with consistency being a main objective.
