The wide variety of talented members are always welcome to provide input at each meeting.

There are a good number of new people in the Village that have an interest in shooting sports.  I meet them each month at New Villagers and many have signed on to the Shooting Sports Association group and meetings.

I often get asked about places to shoot and for those who prefer outdoor ranges, I tell them about the Loudon County police range off of Sugar Limb road at the end of Interstate Lane.

For a donation of $50 per year, from January 1 to December 31, we can use the range most days except Sunday.  There are times that the police use it to qualify and when the prisoners in good standing are brought there to mow the lawn, but for the most part, we are good to go.

The range itself is in need of repair.  I have spoken to the sheriff's dept. about it and offered assistance from a number of people I know that would help, but so far it appears that there are more pressing things they have to deal with.  Also the land on the other side of the road from the range has been sold and cleared.  From what I heard a church will be built on it.  I thought for sure that would be the end of all shooting, but one of the parishioners from that church said most of the people that attend have a gun under their shirts.👍

If you do decide to take part, bring your own targets and either take them with you when you leave or tear them up into bite size pieces and put them in one of the garbage cans.  It is also a great idea to make your intentions clear to anyone else who may be there to be sure that firearms safety is being practiced at all times.

The actual fate of the range is still unknown, but while we have it, it is a great benefit that the Sheriff's Department has given us.

An internet search will lead you to a number of indoor ranges in the area and to the Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association in Oak Ridge Tn.  It covers just about any shooting discipline from plinking, IDPA, cowboy, shotgun, handgun and bow and arrow.
