Community Life

Holy Day Programs and Baha'i Spiritual Feasts

Our spiritual life in the Shoals is based on the unique Baha'i Calendar.  We join together in worship gatherings that we call, "Nineteen-Day Feasts",  and we gather to observe Holy Days.  Contact us to be invited to a public Holy Day Program.

Devotional and Prayer Gatherings

We warmly invite everyone to participate in community Devotional Gatherings.  We welcome unifying prayers from all religious traditions.  During the 2020-2021 Pandemic, we used Zoom Conferences and Teleconferences to pray together. Please contact us, if interested in listening or participating in person, or by Zoom or phone.

Study Circles and Firesides

You are welcomed to join us in a Study Circle, or a Fireside based on a discussion of Baha'i topics  that interest you.  These are opportunities to enrich yourself on spiritual themes and principles.

Youth Spiritual Empowerment Programs

We are seeking partners in the Shoals area, who are interested in being animators for the spiritual empowerment for children and youth.  The curriculum that we use teaches children to develop virtues and be spiritual and service-minded.  Training and background checks are prerequisites for volunteers.  Please contact us, if interested.

Unity Activities

The Baha'is of the Shoals engage in campaigns from time to time to advocate on vital societal issues, and to participate in matters related to Race Unity, Gender Equality, Value of Diversity, Justice, Education, and Children Issues.  We co-sponsor Race Amity Day in June annually in the Shoals.

Community Involvement

Through the years, Baha'is have been involved in community affairs in the Shoals area through its support of the Martin Luther King March, UNA Women's Center, Project Say Something, UNA Global Festival, a children's World-Citizen activity at the Renaissance Faire, Florence Help Center, the W.C. Handy Music Festival, and has been recognized by awards from the Martin Luther King Committee, the NAACP, and the University of North Alabama.

Baha'i School

The Baha'is of the Shoals and interested Friends have attended weekend Baha'i Schools in the region, including the Alabama Royal Falcon Baha'i School at the beach of the Florida Panhandle, the Tennessee Baha'i School at Monteagle, and the Mississippi Magnolia Baha'i School in Mississippi.

Individual Spirituality

You may be surprised that the Baha'i Faith has no clergy.  Truly the time has come for everyone to take responsibility for his and her own spiritual progress.  We accept the responsibility in daily obligatory prayer, studying Scriptures, reflecting on our behavior and attitudes, and refining our spirituality by fasting annually during 19 days in March.  We democratically elect Baha'is to handle administrative needs of the Baha'i community, in lieu of any clergy.
