Here is a glimpse into some of our PTA-sponsored events!
Held just before the start of the year, this is a great, brief, low-key way to meet some new classmates. Date and time are shared over the summer, and children are given color-coded name tags upon arrival to help them easily identify classmates. The event is held on the Shoal Creek playground and includes a tasty popsicle treat. Fun for the whole family!
Held during the same week as fall and spring Parent Teacher Conferences, the book fair is a fun way to shop or serve...or both! Interested PTA members help with the set-up and sales at the book fair, and all members of the school community are invited to shop the great titles available. Students visit during the school day to preview the books and can return after school and during conferences to shop. A portion of the sales benefits the Shoal Creek PTA!
Bring the whole family to school on these nights, typically held on two Friday evenings during the school year, to enjoy some family fun and socialization! We've done Bingo, Game Night, Fitness Night, STEAM, and more! What will we do this year?!
One great Shoal Creek PTA offering, Shoal Creek Serves (or "Serves" as it is often called), creates community service volunteer opportunities for our students to become leaders in the community. Numerous opportunities are available throughout the year, offering chances for the entire family to serve. The Family Packs Program is the largest undertaking, in which Shoal Creek families donate food to provide 60 low-income families in the Liberty Public Schools community with supplemental groceries each month of the school year. Participate by simply donating food from the list (see Star Notes or the PTA newsletter for details), or volunteer as a family at one of the Pack Nights, where you'll sort and pack the donations for the families. Have ideas for other volunteer opportunities you'd like to help get started? Let us know at ptashoalcreek@gmail.com!
The Dancing with the Stars Fundraiser is our largest annual school fundraiser and allows the PTA to fund all these great events as well as a multitude of educational enrichment tools, playground upgrades, field trips, and more! After a week of fun challenges and lessons thrown into the school days, it's time for the Dancing! On the event day, each grade level will spend time completing multiple dance challenges and games. It's an energy-filled time, and the kids love it!
Always a treat for students and teachers alike, these visits give an inside peek at the world inside an author's imagination or an illustrator's creativity. Students have the chance to pre-purchase books and have them autographed by the visiting author!
All PTA members and volunteers are invited to join us this night for a catered dinner, a small thank-you gift, and time to get out of the house and mingle! The PTA would be words on paper if it weren't for the time and support of our members and volunteers! We couldn't do any of this without you!
Skip the dinner prep! These nights appear throughout the year at a variety of local restaurants. (There is also a Charlie's Car Wash week to give your vehicle a treat!) A portion of the sales from each night comes back to the Shoal Creek PTA. Find a complete list of dates and locations on the Calendar page.
Launched in 2020 to help show extra appreciation to our teachers and staff, Teacher Love is all about showing teachers...love! Every month of the school year, we try to do something special for our Shoal Creek educators. From covering recess duty to bringing in Sonic drinks to providing breakfast or a soup & chili bar, our love knows no - or few - bounds! Check the monthly PTA newsletters for ways you might be able to help, and save the date for recess duty coverage - we usually cover during Parent-Teacher Conference weeks in October and March (and again during Teacher Appreciation Week)!
Team up with other parents to provide a yummy dinner and tasty treats for the hardworking staff during Parent-Teacher Conference nights in the fall and spring. Sign-ups for meals and supplies are e-mailed to all PTA members interested in helping.
Join us for a morning with Santa & Mrs. Claus, some hot cocoa, photos & story time, and fun, simple activities for the kids!
We're proud to be able to bring a variety of cultural arts opportunities to our students, both inside the school building and out in the community. From puppet shows to writing workshops to dance and music programs and more, students are exposed to real-world, interactive cultural arts to develop a better understanding and appreciation of the world around them.
Here, every student has the chance to show off a few pieces of art created during the year as the hallways are magically transformed into an art gallery during their student showcases. PTA member volunteers work with the art teachers to help hang the art for the show.
PTA Reflections is a nationally-acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the year's theme. Students may choose one or all of the available arts categories: Dance/choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. Watch for more details about this program in your Star Notes and PTA newsletter.
PTA organizes a supply pack order each spring for the following school year, where you have a chance to order a supply pack for your child specific to his or her grade level. Packs are then ordered and delivered to the school, waiting in the classroom for you at Back to School Night. Keep an eye out for information as the year comes to a close and make your school supply shopping a breeze!
Help shower treats and thanks on our wonderful school staff! This event is a week-long celebration of the teachers and school staff members your children love so much. Participate by donating food or supplies or by "subbing" for the teachers, doing lunch duty or manning the car rider lines at drop-off! Look for sign-ups in the late spring.
At the very end of the year, students, parents, and teachers of 5th grade students get to celebrate six years of elementary school memories. A vocal music performance, a slideshow, games, and fun help send the 5th graders off to middle school!
Finally, the bookend of the PTA year is the annual Field Day held in May. It's an event where every single child can participate, play, laugh, and test their luck at games for the mind and body, with zero athletic ability required! PTA member volunteers help run the stations, which are new and different every year.
