DYCP
DYCP
I received the coveted DYCP grant from the Arts Council England in 2024. With this generous support, I was able to deep dive into my creative practice as a performer and a choreographer. I undertook two residencies at Open Source Arts and at Dance Studio Leeds for consistent physical training and creative exploration. I nominated John Britton and Alleyne Dance (Sade Alleyne) as mentors who would support me in this journey and help me take the next step towards my goals. Thanks to the fund I was able to take on more creative projects to test out my potential in different spaces such as participating in the curtain raiser for ACCA Dance Theatre and being a part of Akram Khan Company rehearsals. I also got together with filmmaker Maverick for a documentary and started working on a potential new piece with contemporary dancers in Leeds.
Over 13 online sessions with John Britton, I received mentorship on
Developing a performer's focus and presence
Understanding the role of a performer in any collaboration
Discovering the ‘why’ behind my practice.
With Alleyne Dance, I developed
Movement research for a potential new piece
Understanding how to build a narrative
Physical training in Alleyne style of dance
Attended R&D rehearsals by Dance United Yorkshire and Akram Khan Company’s new large-scale project for Bradford City of Culture 2025.
Performed in curtain raiser for ACCA Dance Theatre’s immersive show ‘Occupational Hazard’.
