विष्णोरर्धं महाभागं पुत्रमैक्ष्वाकुवर्धनम्।
Six seasons (one year) passed after the completion of the sacrifice. In the twelfth month of Chaitra on the ninth day (of the bright fortnight), with Aditi as presiding deity when the star Punarvasu was in the ascendent and the five planets Sun, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter and Venus, were exalted in their own house in Karkaṭa lagna, when Bṛhaspati was in conjunction with the Moon, Kausalyā gave birth to a son: a facet of Viṣṇu, Lord of the entire universe who received obeisance from all the worlds and was adorned with all auspicious signs, the venerable one to perpetuate the Ikṣvāku race.
Following is the chart which Paramguruji Sanjay Rath uses for Sri Rama.
Five planets - Su, Ma, Ve, Sa, Guru are ucca~exalted while Mo is in own rasi~sign. Rahu-Ketu are in 6-12 axis nica~debilitated.
Born on Chaitra Śukla Navami: Navami is ruled by Sūrya. In his relationships, Śrī Rāma is very dharmic, proud and he upheld highest dharma in his marriage throughout. However because Sūrya is cursed by Śani, Rāhu and Maṅgala, it has resulted in separation, frustration, tests in marriage as well.
Punarvasu = Punah + vasu = पुनः + वसु = again + radiance/light = restoration of glory, wealth, prosperity; one who rises again to goodness; have ability to bounce back [SanjayRath]
So this nakshatra indicates sudden fall and rise. In the Vimshottari Dasa scheme, the nakshatra rulership is with Brihaspati~Guru.
The deity associated with Punarvasu is mother Aditi, wife of Kashyapa who gave birth to 33 devas (12 Adityas, 11 Rudras, 8 Vasu, Indra, Prajapati). So Punarvasu born are easy-going, easily satisfied, helpful, have good qualities and provide for others just as Aditi, the mother of all devas is [FreedomCole]. These people may also be self-sacrificing, idealistic, religious, forgiving, honest, truthful - qualities we would associate with Guru Brihaspati [SanjayRath].
Ramana Maharishi, Giorgio Armani, Harrison Ford, Theodore Roosevelt are some other people born in this nakshatra and can be seen to have a renewal, bouncing back theme in their lives.
Punarvasu is a Cara~movable nakshatra, so in muhurta it is good for planning travels, acquiring vehicles or events which require movement. This nakshatra may also indicate travels, foreign visits or stays. This nakshatra is not suitable for marriages though it is good for renewing vows or getting back together after separation.
There’s more depth to using nakshatra through Navtara, Sarvotabhadra scheme which is explained in Pt. Sanjay Rath’s PJC course and Freedom Cole’s Science of Light.
Cancer Lagna~Ascendant people can be emotional-fickle; honor brahmins-religious people; are good with strategy; learned, intelligent; enduring and caring like a mother, honored for virtues; have a small or honorable family-lineage; may have less children or issues concerning children; consider friends as part of family.
Sri Ram comes from royal lineage-he is Surya-vanshi; has traditionally treated Brahmins with great reverence; emotional-he cried inconsolably for his wife before Rishi Agastya so much so that Siva had to appear and calm him by giving knowledge in form of Siva Gita; has had issues with children and undoubtedly honored for his dharma, virtues.
Lagna Lord in 1H in own rasi conjunct exalted Guru: Sri Ram has very high ideals about conducting himself in accordance with the prevalent dharma and by the words of the rishi-gurus being the 9L [SanjayRath].
Guru is one of the four graha who make a person intelligent and being 6L conjunct Lagna lord also forms Dhimanta yoga making Sri Ram very intelligent and wise.
Also, Guru is 6L sitting in lagna, so gurus-rishis want service from him which is evident when Rishi Vishwamitra asked for him. 6H is also enemies, and 6L being exalted shows the mighty scholar Ravana being inimical to him.
Guru Chandra conjunction in Lagna forms a beautiful Gaj-kesari yoga which makes him virtuous, granting him honors, wealth, and support from the society. They also form Laxmi-Narayan yoga on Lagna, so he’d have prosperity coming to him as part of his bhagya 9H.
Guru is also digbali in Lagna in Hamsa Mahapurusa yoga, which shows complete blessings of Isana and Sri Ram’s incredible grasp on dharma, religion and vedic conduct. No wonder he is maryada purushottama.
However that Guru in Lagna is aspected by Sani and Mangala causing a curse onto him coming from past life. Devrishi Narada had cursed Visnu that he’d have to suffer the pain of separation from his beloved which became part of both Sri Ram and Krishna Avatara. So Sri Ram had to leave his birthplace~Lagna and wander in the forests. More details on this is taught by Pt Sanjay Rath in his various teachings.
10th from Chandra has ucca-exalted Surya indicating the society, the people want him to be the Kshatriya, to rule, to be the king and of all the Visnu avatar we all subconsciously understand Sri Rama to be the king of Bharata and so no wonder when temple at Rama-janmabhumi was inaugurated, everybody welcomed him by as king of Bharata.
With Ketu in 12th, troubles in marriage can be expected due to sudden events and continuation of lineage is the reason for getting married.
Mangala in 7th indicates he loves to hangout with his brothers, Sri Hanuman and male colleagues.
4H Sani indicates dangers but the ucca-exalted lord Sukra protects him and his wife Sita followed him into vanvas~exile to be with him even though such condition wasn’t placed on her.
More details are taught in PJC and Dhana Karaka workshop.
Surya is ucca-exalted and its dispositor is also exalted. Surya is in a curse which resulted in Sri Ram to lose his throne. Right when he was about to be crowned as king certain events transpired which forced him into an exile. Surya in 10H is digbali shows he knows how to lead however cursed situation forced him to not be able to do so. But when he was with foreigners, vaanars and servants he did lead them with dharma. He regained his position as king of Ayodhya after the returning from Lanka however he still faced challenges in leading peacefully. But his ideals in leadership cannot be questioned. Surya is 2L in 10H showing he will take forward the karma of his lineage which is to rule like his forefathers. Surya is in Garvita and Dipta avastha as he’s born to lead men on path of dharma.
Mangala is ucca-exalted but in Marana Karaka Sthana which indicates troubles in marital life and suffering to people fighting with him in war. 7H Mangala also forms Kuja dosha which isn’t conducive for marriage and will give troubles concerning intimacy. While this is not as bad as for someone like him, someone with very high dharma-ideals but in modern age it can spell disaster and fights, distress can be expected in marriage.Yet Sri Ram also had to fight for survival of his marriage and that area of life was most tested even after the Ramayana. Mangala is representing Sri Hanuman in his chart who came to his rescue and literally destroyed his enemies. Mangala is 5L in 7H indicating Sri Rama loved his wife dearly but it came with pain, wars and tests. Mangala has aspects of Rahu, Guru and Chandra showing underhanded methods in war and elevation of people working for him. Everyone who came to him directly or accidentally was uplifted out of their previous birth’s curses or raised to veneration like Sri Hanuman, Vibhishina, Jatayu, Shabri, Ahilya and more. Mangala is also in Garvita and Dipta avastha and benefic aspects make it better so he knows how to fight, what is the most dharmic way to fight even though it may appear (AL10) to be underhanded like killing of Bali or taking help of Vibhishana. Even in Gita 10.31 Krishna says,”rāmaḥ śhastra-bhṛitām aham” - of the wielders of weapons I am Rāma, so there isn’t a warrior as big as Sri Rama.
Arudha is what the world perceives about someone and about things associated with them.
Sri Rama’s Arudha Lagna is in 10H Aries with ucca Surya so undoubtedly we all perceive him as the king of Bharata, as a mighty leader and one upholding the dharma at its highest.
Chandra, Sani and Mangala are digbali from Arudha lagna taking him to south for war, studying with Rishi Vashishtha and regaining glory due to Vayu-putra Hanuman.
He’s seen as mighty Kshtatriya in his karma due to Mangala in AL10.
With Sukra in 12th, his own people have tarnished his reputation on account of his wife but it forms a subh-yoga so he lost his wife even after Ramayana to uphold the dharma of a king.
Rahu is in 9th Marana karaka sthana from the Arudha Lagna so he got good support from outsiders all through the Ramayana who were in a disheartening situations personally in their lives when they met Rama like Sugriva, Sri Hanuman, Jatayu, Vibhishana and more.
Sri Rama’s second step-mother became inimical, is seen by A6 in 8H as one lord comes to 4H and the other lord Rahu, here Ravana, is in 6H nica-debilitated.
From A4 we can see Sri Rama finds happiness being with his community, family and lineage.
Mula Dasa finds mention in Kalyan Verma’s Saravali and it is good for timing curses, hardships and other evils. It shows the exact period when a curse or blessing shall come into play [SanjayRath (1999)]. Sometimes painful experiences cannot be remedied but just have to be experienced, it is the dridha (fixed) karma we carry from past lives.
In Sri Ram’s chart, Mula Dasa is used to time and determine the length of his exile from Ayodhya which was a consequence of the curse of Devrishi Narada on Visnu as mentioned earlier.
If you wish to learn to calculate Mula dasa, I’d suggest reading Pt Sanjay Rath’s article “Mūla Daśā” dated September 30, 2017 and Science of Light-Vol 2 by Freedom Cole.
From Mula dasa table of Sri Rama, we can clearly see that during the exact 14 year period of Sani dasa (Sani is causing curse, delivering punishing karma of past life which in unflinching since it is retrograde), Sri Rama was exiled to forests and during this 14 year period he suffered from the pain of losing his beloved and subsequently being saved by a vaanara, Sri Hanuman.
