Alzheimer's disease is a complex neurodegenerative disorder that significantly destroys memory, cognition, and behavior. As one of the most common forms of dementia, its prevalence has increased globally, posing significant challenges for healthcare systems. While the exact causes are still not fully understood, scientists have identified Amyloid Plaques and Tau Tangles play a significant role in its development
Amyloid Plaques: Imagine sticky clumps of a protein called beta-amyloid that build up between nerve cells in the brain. These plaques disrupt cell function and communication. Think of them like roadblocks that prevent brain cells from talking to each other effectively.
Tau Tangles: Inside brain cells, there's another protein called tau that helps stabilize their structure. In Alzheimer's, tau protein becomes tangled into abnormal fibers. These tangles disrupt the transport system within the cell, preventing essential nutrients from moving around, eventually leading to cell death. Imagine the cell's internal transport system getting choked up.
Vedic astrology, rooted in ancient Indian tradition, posits that the positions and interactions of graha~planets at the time of birth can provide insights into various aspects of an individual's life, including health.
This study seeks to identify the connections between medical findings and astrological principles by analyzing specific planetary configurations in the natal charts of individuals affected by Alzheimer's disease. It aims to identify recurring patterns and explore whether these align with known medical risk factors, offering a unique perspective on the condition's origins.
We can begin examination of a medical or healthcare question by investigating into the 64th navamsa termed as Khara navamsa as mentioned in Jataka Parijata. This sensitive area of the birth chart also finds mention in other classics including Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra, Hora Ratnam, and Prasna Marga. While most of the texts discuss results related to transits or longevity, Paramguruji Sanjay Rath teaches this concept with wider application and philosophy which is part of his PJC course.
I selected 58 AA-rated charts from Astrodatabank. All these subjects specifically suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia or Parkinson’s disease were ruled out during chart selection. Database and Analysis
Because Alzheimer’s is a neurodegenerative disorder which occurs primarily in old age, the first hypothesis is the influence of
Vayu tatva and/or
Mangala and/or
Budh/Guru graha
on Khara navamsa.
Vayu tatva graha are degenerating, Mangala rules nerves and Budh/Guru rule memory, cognition and ability to perform tasks.
This is a necessary but not a sufficient condition to establish the possibility of Alzheimer’s disease. 49 of 58 charts complied with condition one and 7 cases complied with either condition two or three. Only 2 cases did not identify with either of the above conditions. The two outliers were - Freeman, Orville and Bailey, Mildred Caroon
There were two more conditions placed concerning 6th and 12th house of navamsa, however these were secondary and are proprietary to PJC coursework. These conditions are used to further support the above primary hypothesis.
The second hypothesis was for Rasi chart D1,
Mangala should be afflicted or influenced by Vayu tatva graha either by placement, aspect or conjunction
The disease has to manifest physically and for that to happen Mangala~nerves must suffer degeneration ~ vayu. This is also a necessary but not a sufficient condition and 51 of 58 charts complied with this condition. Of the remaining 7, in 2 charts Lagna Lord is very weak causing loss of intellectual abilities; 1 chart has influence of Sani on both Mangala’s rasi which is a weak connection but still qualifies and other 3 charts have Mangala in a weak condition by being debilitated, MKS being Vara lord. Only the chart of Cutler, Virginia did not seem to present any weakness in D1 based on this condition though there’s one more principle in action based on Vara-Cakra which could justify Alzheimer’s in her chart.
Along with above, in Rasi chart D1, either or both of these supporting conditions can be expected to co-exist -
Weak Surya: indicating low vitality especially in old age as Vayu graha gets dominant
Afflicted Aries or 1H or Ju or Me: to indicate possibility of brain conditions
48 of 58 charts complied with both of these conditions. Of the remaining, 4 complied with either condition. In 3 charts, 4th bhava from Chandra was found to be afflicted. One of the conditions which can lead to Alzheimer’s disease is prenatal distress, although it wasn't a primary focus of this study.
There were additional supporting conditions which enabled narrowing down the possibility of the disease. However, these are proprietary to PJC coursework and hence are not discussed.
This study offers a preliminary exploration into the correlation between astrological indicators and the manifestation of Alzheimer’s disease, with a particular focus on Khara Navamsa and planetary influences in both the Navamsa (D9) and Rasi (D1) charts. Through the analysis of 58 AA-rated charts of individuals diagnosed specifically with Alzheimer’s, certain recurring astrological patterns emerged—most notably, the influence of Vayu-tatva graha, Mangala, and Budh/Guru in critical chart placements.
While not intended as a diagnostic tool, this study attempts to bridge ancient wisdom with modern medical understanding. The inclusion of PJC methodology enriches the interpretive process, though much of it remains within a specific lineage of teaching.
