The most salient and distinguishing feature of Jyotisa~ Vedic Astrology compared to any other astrology system is the Vargas ~ divisional charts. The rasi chart (D1) we construct at the time of birth is further used to create more charts called Vargas ~ divisional charts based on mathematical calculations and each varga represents a specific area of life. Just as a tree trunk divides into its various fruit bearing branches so does this division of the main rasi chart into vargas can be visualized. We look at the Rasi chart (D1) to analyze the broad situation and then use the vargas to deep dive into specifics. Though there are many vargas, but shodasvarga system (16 divisionals) is most often talked about which includes
Navamsa (D9) for marriage, intimacy and skills
Saptamsa (D7) for progeny, parenting and pregnancy
Chaturthamsa (D4) for properties
Dasamsa (D10) for work and career
Dwadasamsa (D12) for parents, uncles-aunts, grandparents
Saptamsa shows pregnancy conditions, children to be born including gender and what the future of the child is like. It also shows problems in conception, abortion, and miscarriages. However, we check Rasi chart (D1) first to ascertain karma towards children. For men, 5H is analysed while for women 9H is analysed.
Guru~Jupiter is karaka (significator) of children and its condition is to be seen first in Saptamsa if it is conducive to having children.
Saptamsa Lagna is native’s attitude towards their children. Malefics there make one harsh or gives no desire of having children. If Saptamsa Lagna is odd, the first child is seen from 5H and subsequent children are seen as the third from there and so on.
Birth takes place during the dasa of planets having Argala on Saptamsa Lagna.
Mercury, Saturn and / or Venus are not supportive towards giving children (J.S. 1.4.24). Mercury and Saturn are eunuch planets and can deny fertility. Venus is interested in keeping love life going instead of letting one into parenthood and so can deplete chances for progeny.
Sun, Rahu and Jupiter promise many children while Moon promises one (J.S. 1.4.25-26).
If there are combinations or aspects involving both planets giving children (Sun, Rahu, Jupiter and Moon) and those denying children (Mercury, Saturn and Venus), then a child will be born later in life (J.S. 1.4.27).
Saturn and Mars together promote adoption of children (J.S. 1.4.28).
There are many more rules we learn in Parasara Jyotish Course (PJC) and Science of Light (SoL) which are not known outside the parampara and give incredible results about ascertaining child birth.
