Mindfulness practice is embedded in our classes and the Buddhist teaching. As a way to gather virtually and socialize as a sangha, we planned a social hour to share photos that depict moments of gratitude, kindness, and stillness as a result of practicing mindfulness. Please enjoy the photos and their descriptions as we did when we met as a group, Nov. 28, 2020.
Siddham: Namo ratnatrayāya. Translation: Homage to the Three Jewels.
Rock garden water bowl
Sits in silence amidst the golden glow of fallen ginko leaves
As if a large bell waiting to be struck
Preparing food to share with others.
On the day to day, I have seen things that bring up concentration.
Beauty surround us.
Patient observation, change in perspective, and honoring ephemeral conditions guided me to capture this moment among seagulls reluctantly sharing a crab meal at Seaside, Oregon during sunset this fall.
Hotoke sama...reveals an overall essence/energy of deep gratitude.
Saw this in an industrial area of Portland. Not sure what this plant is called but it was the one spot of color and beauty in an area filled with trash, overpasses and graffiti.
It reminded me that we can look for and find beauty anywhere, and not to rush through any area or part of life.
Beauty is something we can always find, whether in nature, in the human constructed world, or in our own lives.
This moment in the clarity and quiet of a nearby forest keeps reminding me how there is an understanding or knowledge that I have only barely touched. Filled with awe.
We're offering another social hour on Dec. 19, 2020, this time with a focus on poetry and haikus. For more information, please go to: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sangha-poetry-share-tickets-131773083841
