DEACONS

Overview

The Board of Deacons is a vital branch of the church.  Their ministry is one of compassion. It is the first duty of a Deacon to provide sympathy and service to those in need.  They are viewed as spiritual servants of the church.  The Board can vary in size, but typically has 5-7 members who elect their own officers.  These special people are selected by the Nominating Committee for three-year terms and elected by the congregation before Ordination and Installation in January.  At Shiloh, Deacons meet monthly to discuss and review needs of church and community members to whom they are called to aid financially, spiritually, or in any other manner.  They often make deliveries or assist with transport.  The Deacons are also responsible for preparing for Communion and changing the liturgical paraments that adorn the pulpit and altar.  This board also meets annually with Session.
