This route is approximately 10 km (6.3 miles) long and is primarily designed as a flat, family-friendly cycle route
Route Overview
The loop connects the main settlements in the northern part of the island, passing through residential areas, green spaces, and the coastline. Starting near the Town Centre of Sheerness.
Inland Section: The route travels south through the areas of Mile Town and West Minster, then turns east near the settlement of Halfway.
Coastal Section: The trail turns north and begins following the coast and seawall, running past the elevated area of Merryman's Hill and the town of Minster.
Return to Sheerness: Finally, it follows the seafront promenade back towards the starting point near the Sheppey Leisure Complex that is located near the Town Centre of Sheerness.
Points of Interest Along the Route
The route offers a mix of maritime history and coastal views:
Barton's Point Coastal Park: Located on the coastal curve where the route turns east towards the sea, this park is a popular spot for a break, featuring a salt-water lake and amenities.
Coastal Views: Along the northern coast, you get extensive views of the Thames Estuary. On a clear day, you may be able to spot the masts of the famous SS Richard Montgomery shipwreck offshore.
