The author Mark Andrew Kirk is Ronald & Mona Sheppard's Grandson. He was born in Leicester, Kirby Muxloe to be exact. He was brought up in Wymeswold, Leicestershire by his parents Roger & Janet Kirk, where he lived a relatively stress free life, he then married Dawn in 1996.
He has a thirst for Family History, Northern Soul and riding the roller coaster that is following is local Football Club, Leicester City. He also enjoys walks in the local Bradgate Park and amateur photography. During the day he works as a Network Engineer originally with Eaton & now with Park Place Technologies, some of the world's largest electronic companies & at night he is just the imbecile who cannot even load the dishwasher properly !

The 2798 Squadron joined the 2nd Tactical Air Force in 1944 and were aligned with the Americans when landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy. They were also one of the 1st British Units into Paris when it was liberated. Ray took photos with his own camera as he travelled across Europe including his time at the Travemunde sea base on the Northern German Baltic coast. The book covers Ray's time with the 2798.

Alf Kirk was a member of the Loyal Lancashire Regiment. He was taken prisoner by the Japanese Empire in Singapore on the 15th February 1942.
