We continue to monitor the developments with the coronavirus pandemic in our community. The safety and well-being of our students and catechists are of utmost importance. At this time, we are offering three different options: in person, online/distant learning, and hybrid classes. We will follow the guidance of the Archdiocese of San Antonio with regards to resuming classes completely at the parish when it is deemed safe, along with the protocol that will be in place.. More information will be sent to the parents as we recieve it from the Archdiocese.
For one child, the tuition for religious education classes for the entire year is $35.00; for two children $70.00; and for three or more children $90.00.
Payment of the tuition and fees for this catechetical year can be submitted online if you are registering online. Payments are also accepted at the parish office during office hours. The forms of payment accepted at the parish office include: cash, check, and credit/debit cards.
Per the guidelines of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, in order for a child to celebrate First Communion or Confirmation, at least two consecutive years of religious education is required. The preparation for First Communion begins in first (1st) grade at the earliest, and the preparation for Confirmation begins in tenth (10th) grade at the earliest (Sacred Heart School graduates are granted permission to enroll in second year Confirmation Prep. in ninth (9th) grade). However, the program also offers continuing faith formation classes.
Continuing faith formation classes afford children the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the faith and to continue to grow in their relationship with Christ. Religious education is a continuous process that does not end with the reception of the sacraments. In the same way that children continue going to school as they progress through each grade level, they should also continue their religious education and build on their faith. Children can begin attending continuing faith formation classes as early as first grade. After First Communion, parents are strongly encouraged to continue their children's faith formation in the religious education program.
Children are also given different opportunities to become involved in the life of the parish community by participating in one of our ministries, such as Altar Servers, Music Ministry, and Youth Group. There is no cost involved to participate in a ministry. For more informtion contact Mrs. Davis at: religioused.sacredheartchurch@gmail.com
Due to the ongoing situation with the coronavirus, the ministries are not currently meeting or holding activities at the parish. The parish will follow the direction of the Archdiocese of San Antonio as to when ministry activities at the parish can resume.
Children seven (7) years of age and older who have not been baptized are considered catechumens. In general, children need to attend religious education classes for at least two years (three years in some cases) prior to being baptized. If a child is under seven (7) years of age, the parents should contact the Parish Office for additional information.
Students are allowed up to three (3) excused absences in the year. Reasons for excused absences include: illness, death in the family, and other emmergencies. Absences for sports and school related activities are not considered excused and will have to be made up.
The best way to contact Mrs. Davis, the Religious Education Director, is by sending an email to: religioused.sacredheartchurch@gmail.com or by calling: (830) 775-2143 after 2pm.
