There once was a handsome King who had everything that he could want or need but the King felt lonely. The King had travelled many places and had seen many sights. He had dated some of the vilest creatures and one in particular who was of an elvish descent had attempted to trick the King into joining him in an everlasting life only to turn into a being from hell and attack the King when the King denied him.
The King could not shake the loneliness that he had felt for so many years. He heard tales of a noble man that lived in a giant castle in the Fairy realm and waited for a handsome man to come and save him. This man being trapped in the castle by the great fairy and put to sleep by the great fairy with a dragon to guard the castle. Over the years as the man was asleep the dragon had burned a moat around the castle and the great fairy enchanted a bridge that would allow only the man’s true love to pass.
The bridge would not be without a challenge and with each step on the bridge the dragon would be alerted that true love’s kiss was getting closer. The bridge was also enchanted so that if someone did not possess true love for the man in the castle, the bridge would instantly vanish allowing the suitor a quick freefall into the black lava below.
The King, wearing a shining set of armor with the kingdom's crest on the front of it, soon set out to find the man trapped in the castle. The King traveled with a Celtic Warlock who would help aid him should the King find himself in trouble. The warlock wore an oak green cloak with a shimmery green accent along its edges. The cloak itself was handmade by the warlock and was enchanted to provide protection against evil warlocks who sought to kill him. The King came up on a bridge that appeared to be unsteady. The King knew that he needed to cross in order to reach the man in the castle on the other side.
The area below the bridge was filled with what looked like lava. The lava in this area, however, was black like coal and still appeared to be scalding hot. This kind of lava the King knew all too well. It was the result of a dragon that spewed green fire from its mouth.
The warlock, noticing the King's hesitation, enchanted the King's sword and his shield so that it would protect the King from the green fires of the dragon. The King saw the shadow of the dragon hovering over the castle on the other side of the bridge. The King began to walk across the bridge walking carefully as to not step on a loose board and fall into the pit below.
The dragon could sense the King coming but waited for the King to get across the bridge before attempting to kill the King. The dragon lurched at the King as he reached the castle and the green fire shot out of the dragon’s mouth as a warning to the King not to challenge it. The King’s bright red-orange hair was singed slightly by the dragon as the flames passed his head. The King blocked the fire with his shield the second time the dragon attacked. As the dragon landed and was about to let out another burst of fire, the King wielded his sword and struck the dragon within its soft spot located on its belly.
The King then ran to the top of the highest tower in the castle and found the noble man. The noble man appeared to be in his twenties as the sleeping curse the great fairy had used preserved his youth. The King bent down and delivered the man a kiss on the lips. The nobleman’s eyes opened and he saw who had rescued him and thanked him. The King was overjoyed and helped the nobleman up from the bed and lifted him into his arms and carried him out of the castle. The three men returned to the King’s palace. When the two arrived the Kingdom welcomed them with joyous tidings and the King arranged his marriage whereupon the King and the nobleman were married. They lived happily ever after.
Author's Note:
To accomplish the task of writing the beginning of this story I had to use both readings from this section. Celtic stories are interesting to read and this inspired me to write a story that dealt with the King O'Toole and led me to create a love interest for the King. This story I hoped would add another level of connection for my readers to the character of King O'Toole. I also wanted to use some of the aspects of the Fairy Maiden because I thought it would be interesting to have the King's love interest age differently than him or the goose. I took a lot of liberty in adding the fantasy elements within this story and I also wanted to allow my imagination to take a full hold on the story. The story has been developed through additional details that I enjoyed writing about. The dragon was fun to write about and I am finding myself being inspired to maybe one day write a fantasy LGBT romance novel with dragons and elves in it. I feel as though the characters in the original stories were intriguing enough that I could in essence feel good changing them up a little bit. I also enjoyed getting to write this story and hope that others will enjoy reading it. I look forward to seeing where this week will take me.
