My main objectives in teaching is to inspire the students’ interest in the area of Economics and its importance to society, and to make sure that they achieve the required technical skills to be able to communicate and evaluate economic problems in a concrete way. In every course even at undergraduate level, I think it is possible to get students to think about how to identify an economic issue and to connect it to a simple model. Since this skill becomes essential in more advanced courses, I generally like to give students practical example from the beginning so that they can associate theory with reality. I address this goal by connecting the course to real issues as much as possible.
There are several area in which I'm working. The most ambitious poject being development of inherent tendency aspect in the system. In economic analysis we sometimes forget to separate problem with inherent tendency that exist in every society. As a result a major portion of the resource get diverted to tackle inherent tendency, if such process is understood then resource waste can be minimize and at the same time complexity of the system can be reduce. This is work in progress research.
The students I taught at BB College Asansol at Department of Economics had varied backgrounds in economics and math. This challenged me to plan innovative ways to make the class interesting and understandable to every student. For each topic, I started with an example to develop basic model structure in a step by step process. I also find it useful to teach students with a variety of approaches, given that different students had different preferred ways of learning. This kept the courses more dynamic. I encourage students to come and discuss with me as many times as they want and asked them to participate in class lecture also. I provide incentive in terms of extra internal marks, so that they get motivated to participate more. There is no place of laziness or absentee and proper communication is established to address those students problem. The purpose of each course is not only 90 percent students getting things properly or not. For me the most important is whether the non performing students are participating or not is also important. Every student, each one is important for me. I evaluate students as per their ability and comfortability, so that all students get included in active participation. Regular tutorial, revision of topic is done along with application parts. Also, each students are given special attention and things are suggested to them for improvement.
