Tally's Rise and Growth Journey
The provider of Tally software is Tally Solutions Enterprises Resources Planning Company. Its origins date back nearly three decades when Mr. Shyam Sunder Goenka moved from Calcutta to Bangalore to establish his textile business. While in business, he needed accounting software. However, most of the software available at the time failed to meet his expectations. Consequently, he entrusted his son, Mr. Bharat Goenka, a mathematics graduate, with the task of developing accounting software. Thus, Tally Solutions was born in 1986.
Bharat Goenka initially named his software Peutronics Financial Accountant and launched the first version of the accounting application as an MS-DOS application.
The Peutronics Financial Accountant system only included basic accounting software.
In 1988, this product was first named Tally, which stands for Transactions Allowed in Linear Line Yards.
In 1988, Tally launched its first accounting software, Tally 3.0.
In 1994, Tally upgraded its MS-DOS-based software, launching Tally 4.5.
In 1997, the company launched its first Windows-based accounting software, naming it Tally 5.4.
In 1999, the company formally changed its name to Tally Solutions. On 08/11/1991, the company was registered as a private limited company.
In 2001, a new version of Tally, Tally 6.3, was launched. This version was slightly more advanced than the previous version, as it offered the ability to be used for educational purposes in addition to accounting. It also offered a license.
In 2005, Tally was launched with a more refined design, the most prominent feature being Value Added Taxation (VAT), which was very useful for Indian customers. This was version 7.2.
In 2006, two versions of Tally were released: Tally 8.1 and Tally 9. These were multilingual versions of Tally.
In 2009, the company released Tally ERP 9, a business management solution.
In 2015, the company launched a program called Vriddhi to certify and classify its business partners. Also in 2015, Tally Solutions announced the launch of Tally.ERP 9 Release 5.0, with taxation and compliance features.
By 2016, the company had 1 million customers. In 2016, Tally Solutions was selected as the GST Suvidha Provider to provide the interface between the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) server and taxpayers, and in 2017, the company launched its updated GST compliance software – Tally ERP 9 (version 6).
In 2020, when GST mandated e-invoicing compliance, Tally launched its new accounting software – Tally Prime – for e-invoicing. This year, the company also entered the cloud-based accounting environment.
In 2021, Tally introduced the AUDIT TRAIL feature on Tally Prime.
In September 2024, Tally launched its latest version - Tally Prime 5.0, which has many advanced features related to GST, such as reconciliation of GSTR-1, GSTR-2A, GSTR-2B and GSTR-3B, and facility for GST returns, facility to send payment request to customer, facility to request payment through QR code and many other great features with new income tax slab, you can download it - https://tallysolutions.com/download/
