We are currently seeking highly motivated undergraduate/graduate students interested in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Image Processing, Computer Graphics, and Medical Image Analysis. We have openings for prospective MS-PhD or PhD students in CSE and GSAI for Spring 2026 and undergraduate interns for Summer 2025. We welcome applicants for the internship who are planning to pursue graduate studies and are interested in joining our team. As a member of our team, you will work closely with Dr. Lyu to develop cutting-edge techniques for image and surface processing on a variety of 3D shapes. We do NOT have openings for MS students or international applicants at this time.
Current Projects
Development of convolutional neural networks on an unstructured grid (sphere, graph, etc.) for semantic segmentation/data classification/shape matching/shape morphing
Development of data synthesis techniques for unstructured data
Development of shape matching techniques for partially deformed/missing structures
Development of shape feature extraction and descriptor or shape quantification
Several engineering projects available (web programming, code optimization, process automation and containerization, etc.)
While our research projects focus on generic shape analysis techniques, the new member with a keen interest in brain shape analysis will have opportunities to collaborate with our team's partners and actively contribute to a range of related projects.
Qualifications
Successful applicants should (or are expected to) hold a BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Neuroscience or a related field with a strong background in computational research. Key qualifications include:
Strong Academic Background: Excellent grades in mathematics and computer science, including linear algebra, (multivariate) calculus, discrete math, probability, statistics, and algorithms. Courses in computer graphics, computer vision/image processing or machine learning are preferable.
Computational Expertise: Extensive programming skills are mandatory with proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: C++, MATLAB, Python, etc.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn new theories and techniques.
Additional Experience: Experience in mathematical modeling, biomedical image analysis, statistical analysis, and big data analysis is a plus.
Desirable Skills: Previous experience in (neuro)image/surface processing is highly desirable but not required.
Interested applicants should be prepared to approach their research/projects with a serious mindset.
Graduate Admission
We strictly prohibit any form of solicitation regarding graduate admission. Please adhere to the official admission process at here.
We strongly recommend considering an internship with us before applying for the graduate program.
