Ensembles

­­­The Shalom College Music Program is an ensemble-based, co-curricular music program that strives to provide well-balanced, enriching and authentic performance experiences. The established ensembles at Shalom College ensure that students of all ages and abilities have the opportunity to apply specific skills learned in lessons through directed rehearsals and public performances.

Choirs

Shalom College Choir

A non-auditioned ensemble available to all students of all ages including those students currently not enrolled in the Music Program. Music students are encouraged to participate in the choir.

Vocal Ensemble

Known a the "Treble Makers" this ensemble is often called upon for school and community performances. Members are invited to join but should you be interested please speak to the ensemble director. *Must also be a member of the Shalom College Choir.

Bands

Intermediate Concert Band

Includes woodwind, brass and percussion students predominantly in Years 7, 8 & 9.

Senior Concert Band

Includes woodwind, brass and percussion students predominantly in Years 10, 11 & 12.

Intermediate Jazz

Instruments include Saxophone, Trumpet and Trombone with the addition of a Jazz rhythm section (piano, electric or double bass & drum set; sometimes guitar). For predominantly Year 7, 8 & 9 students new to jazz ensembles.

Jazz Band

Instruments include Saxophone, Trumpet and Trombone with the addition of a Jazz rhythm section (piano, electric or double bass & drum set; sometimes guitar). Predominantly Years 10, 11 & 12 students.

Symphony Orchestra

Instrumentation includes Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, woodwind, brass and percussion. For excelling students of all ages.

Strings

Rochford Strings

Includes Violin, Viola, Cello & Double Bass students predominantly in Years 7, 8 & 9, with the addition of an excelling Piano student accompanist.

Chamber Strings

Includes Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass students predominantly in Years 10, 11 & 12, with the addition of an excelling Piano student accompanist.

Symphony Orchestra

Instrumentation includes Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, woodwind, brass and percussion. For excelling students of all ages.

Guitar Ensemble

Rehearsals - Friday Lunchtimes in the Band Room

While the ensemble is mostly guitars we also regularly add vocals, bass guitar and drums. The ensemble is open to all year levels as long as students are very comfortable with chord playing and can read TAB very well. The ensemble plays a mixture of rock music and ensemble music (where there is different music for different guitars like an orchestral piece).

Rock Band

Rehearsals - Friday after school 3:30-4:30pm in the Band Room

The rock band includes vocals, guitars, bass guitar and drums but is also open to wind, string, keys players. There is an obvious focus on rock music. The ensemble is open to all year levels as long as guitarists are very comfortable with chord playing and can read TAB very well, and other instruments are fluent players who can read well.

Members of the Concert Bands and String Ensembles are encouraged to participate in extension ensembles such as Jazz Bands and Symphony Orchestra.

Participation in Choir is encouraged for all students enrolled at the college.
