Teaching

PHILOSOPHY

The future scientists and engineers must be capable of relating the theory with the practical. I strive to metamorphosize my teaching methods to radiate knowledge such that my students learn not just the content in the class but also to think like an engineer and feel the curiosity to drive their singular passions. I believe that every student has the caliber to learn and think. Teaching is universal, any student, be it from my university or any institution around the world, is welcome to to discuss their ideas and problems with me.

EXPERIENCE

Over the last 5 years I have taught engineering lab courses to more than 1400 students. Among other courses, I have taught Control Engineering Lab, Advanced Electronics and Communications Lab, Digital Signal Processing Lab etc. I have also trained a research team to program in Python programming language and use machine learning and deep learning tools. Designed an unique course from scratch to serve the needs of the diverse skill level at the same time keep it enjoyable for all.

Its chalk and talk all the way, I can deliver best in this manner over slides. I constantly upgrade my teaching materials and improve the curriculum to give students maximum learning opportunity. The assessment tools that I design not only enforce my teaching philosophy but also works as an instrument for Outcome Based Education and accreditation criterion. Additionally, I have installed and troubleshot various lab equipment, assessed equipment specification to ensure alignment with the course requirements and performed various administrative tasks.

I successfully adapted to Emergency Remote Teaching due to the onset of COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh around March 2020. I have independently developed lab course curricula and assessment tools for fully online teaching. And have been successfully implementing them for the last 1.5 years of online teaching.

I was an invited Instructor of a workshop titled "Automation using TinkerCAD" held in March 2021 and organized by IEEE NSU Student Branch.

I have consistently implemented two main goals in all lab courses that I have taught, 1) Adhere to my teaching philosophy to the highest degree 2) Though independently taught, the lab courses should be an add-on supporting element to the theory course.

A Random Student Comment

"It was indeed a wonderful experience doing Shajnush bhai's classes. I must say, he is an excellentinstructor and has a very firm grasp over the course materials. Moreover, this semester being somewhat unusual, conducted fully online, Shajnush bhai showed immense patience and conducted classes in such a manner that we did not face a single issue understanding or attending the classes. He was always available after class hours, and promptly replied to mails that we sent to him regarding our confusions. He even taught us a number of things that was not included in the syllabus but we would require those knowledge during our professional work.\nI wish Shajnush bhai all the best for his future endeavors."

INFLUENCES

Applying Feynman Technique to learn and teach has been a critical influence. I learn to be a better teacher everyday from Dr. Shahnewaz Siddique and Likhon "bhai". I got interested in engineering education research from Dr. Lamia Iftekhar, if you think some technique might work in better teaching, why not verify it scientifically? Dr. Arshad Momen's unique, erudite lectures and stupendous control over the class engraved a milestone to reach in teaching,. I may never reach that milestone but getting a lit bit closer to that point than I am today would be amazing.

OUTREACH

I opened a Youtube channel named "Blitzing Engineering" in the hopes of giving help to those who seek it. The channel currently hosts practical experiments on Electrical Circuits II Lab. These videos were produced to aid students get a sense of practical work amidst the online format of hardware labs. I realized that engineering students in Bangladesh face many obstacles in competitive exams after graduation due to disparity in curricula amongst the different institutions. I plan to create materials that will enable students to overcome these obstacles and gaps in knowledge efficiently and effectively. Moreover, I intend to develop contents for technical skill building. Some sample work can be found below, more on Blitzing Engineeering.
