Shajnush AmirResearch Scientist
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

I am passionate about research and technology that forge impact.

I love to work on cutting edge ideas and the notion of impacting lives through the solution of real world problems serves as a motivational propellant. Additionally, working with very scarce resources, optimizing resource utilization and working towards low cost solutions has become a praxis of my working style. I solemnly believe that development of an idea and prospective solutions through theoretical, systems and sensors research can be bolstered and the impact amplified manifolds by ethical qualitative research of potential stakeholders.

My primary research interest is in Control Systems, Biomedical Systems & Control, Robotics and Cyber-Physical Systems and AI. I also have interest in Intelligent Transportation Systems, Humanitarian Technologies and Engineering Education.

I am currently a Research Scientist on a GCRF grant funded project in collaboration with Cardiff University,UK. The goal is to develop a low cost wearable to aid upper limb function rehabilitation of stroke patients. I am leading the designing and testing of the prototype of the wearable. I along with my team participate in qualitative studies focusing on physiotherapy experts and patients. Based on the insights gained from the qualitative study the prototype is tweaked to deliver maximum impact. I am also a Research Assistant on a CTRG funded project on Learning-Based Control of Transportation Networks. Based on traffic data of Dhaka city, we are developing and simulating learning-based algorithms for implementing network control.

I have an ardor for teaching and as a Lab Instructor teach undergraduate lab courses at the Dept. of ECE, North South University. I love teaching Control Engineering Lab. Passing the love and joy of learning and research to young minds gives me immense joy. I'm continuously in the pursuit of improving the lab curricula and teaching methods. I occasionally partake in research on engineering education.

Roaming the vast field of Electrical Engineering, intrigued by all the amazing technology, I ended up being fascinated by Control Systems theory. The sense of achievement derived from the way of identifying a system and applying techniques guided by mathematics to make a system work as it should is my guiding light in the pursuit of knowledge. I completed B.Sc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Cum Laude, 2016) from North South University, Bangladesh. I started as a tech enthusiast freshman and ended up as a full fledged engineer, along the way I gathered a mountain of experiences and a myriad of memories. For my undergraduate capstone project I developed a sensor based human arm motion and gesture replication system. The project was awarded NSU CTRG research grant for further study and extension, this was my first taste of research and I have been hooked to research ever since. I actively participated in campus extracurricular activities and held leadership positions in tech focused student clubs. Leading the organization of a Public Lecture by Dr. Zahid Hasan and meeting a legend of physics who hunted down the fabled Weyl Fermions will always be one of my most cherished memories during my undergrad journey.
