Hailing from the ancient continent of Adroxia, Dragons are magical flying and fire-breathing reptilian creatures. They are thought to descend from the original Dragon Gods of Old Adroxia, whom gave the local populace their blood, turning them into the modern Lyn'valeni Elves and giving them the dragonblood gift to bond with lesser dragons, becoming dragonriders.
After the Calamity of Adroxia, which saw the Lyn'valeni continent sink beneath the waves, the only living dragons were on Wyndorin Bay, where House Wyndorin and their host had landed years prior after being exiled by the Adroxian rulers of Old. These dragons were the ones ridden by the conquerors in 21 N.E. when the Lyn'valeni landed on the mainland and conquered western Vesteria. A Dragonspire was built in Hightower, customary from Old Adroxia in which the dragons would reside. Some say Dragonspires have magical properties that calls a riderless dragon back to it, but that is only myth.
Dragons were nearly extinct during the Adroxian Civil War of 353 N.E., afterwhich the Church of the Old Spirit became the official state religion of the Adroxian Empire and imposed a two-rider limit on House Wyndorin, forcing the ancient dragonlords to forfeit most of their dragons to the Church. It is unknown if these captive dragons were then slain, or kept imprisoned somewhere, however many wild dragons still resided across the Empire, summarily hunted down and either slain or captured by the Church.
The bond between a dragon and its rider is unbreakable unless death parts them. When a rider has bonded to a dragon, their psyche are linked, creating a mental connection between the two and allowing them to communicate directly to each other, practically disregarding any distance in the world. Whatever the rider feels, the dragon can feel as well, and vice-versa. When a dragon loses its rider, it will most-certainly go wild unless kept within the Dragonspire in Hightower, in which time the dragon will be able to mourn its rider until their psyche is healed enough to take on another rider. Wild dragons are extremely difficult to bond, quasi-impossible and most dragonlore warns those of the dragon blood to not attempt such a foolish endeavour.
You cannot have your character begin as a Dragonrider. Story-important Dragonriders are already active and taken.
To claim a dragon, one must:
Be Lyn'valeni or have a Lyn'valeni ancestor dating back 4 generations or have blood from an ancient Adroxian house, such as House Wyndorin, House Pendragon, and House Morghon;
Receive staff approval;
Understand and accept the risks that come with the process: suffering, mutilation, dismemberment, or even death;
Go through the process of claiming slowly (as discussed with staff), not instantaneously.
Each dragon have their own personality, no dragon will be bonded the same way.
There is currently { 2 } dragonriders:
Crown Prince Kasimir Wyndorin (bonded to Darkclaws)
Lady Illiana Morghon (bonded to Syndor)
Dragon eggs are rare and difficult to come by.
Most dragon eggs can be found in the Dragonspire.
There are { 13 } dragon eggs in total:
{ 6 } eggs can be found in the Dragonspire;
{ 2 } eggs are in the Adroxian Crownlands;
{ 3 } eggs are in the Akhavarian Reaches;
{ 1 } egg is in the Northern Wastes;
{ 1 } egg is in the Dwarven Underground;
The number of eggs in unknown locations is not known in-universe; that would defeat the purpose of eggs in unknown locations. These numbers are there for OOC purposes.
You may not find an egg without staff approval prior to starting such a scene. Further indications/restrictions may be given as we see fit. Should you decide that your character fails to surrender an egg, you accept the associated consequences of this act, including but not limited to the death of your character.
