The National History Day Club is based on a yearly research competition. The club's goal is to sponsor project submissions for NHD competitions. We also work on Public Relations projects. Our Public Relation Projects are in the form of promotional videos, fundraisers, and even coordinated events.
Our general discussion meetings are every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30. The NHD club has it's meetings in room A164.
Besides emailing our Co-Advisor Erik Peterson, who's classroom is in A164. Our President or our Vice-President can be contacted for any questions specifically regarding the NHD club. Messaging our club Instagram account will not likely have a quick response.
For the NHD Club there is no requirements to join. The County competitions are optional as we understand how time consuming they are to anyone. There is no mandatory meetings as we appreciate honest communication. There is no mandatory events / fundraising, as we know people have different schedules that may conflict with our club. But we do appreciate participation in a meeting or event even if it is once or twice a month.
The National History Day is an annual competition between schools. There is always a theme in this history project based competition. It is considered to be a college level project that requires lots of time and work, but it is manageable with most schedules. Like all projects it has to follow a theme. This years theme is: "Frontiers in History: People, Places & Ideas." There are many mediums you can use to present your project but there are certain rules that would apply to said project. These projects include: documentaries, exhibits, papers, performances, podcasts, and websites. With these mediums you can work by yourself or even with a group up to four people.
The NHD competition has several rounds, usually there is eight months to prepare for a school wide competition. Which leads to two submissions per category to compete in a county competition. Those submissions have an additional month to compete in the Orange County Competition with two champions moving on per category. They would move onto the California State competition with a free trip near / to Sacramento. After the California State competition, there would be a national competition between all NHD participating states and even US territories competing in NHD. That competition is held at the University of Maryland, MD.
