Missa la sféra offers an immersive sonic journey, linking legendary Mass settings from late 15th century with the present through vibrant interpretation and profound emotional depth.
The pure sound of the renaissance recorders is gentle and bright, infusing new life into sacred works that are often perceived as abstract and weighty. In this performance, the Mass is lifted from its traditional context and presented in a way that is both captivating and illuminating. A pastiche of three complex and rarely performed Mass cycles unfolds: Missa Prolationum (Johannes Ockeghem), an extraordinary web of canons, surprises the listener with unpredictable melodies and rhythms, offering a refreshing and timelessly witty listening experience. Missa Je ne vis onques (Alexander Agricola) and Missa Le Serviteur (Alexander Agricola) are based on the chansons of the same names – the former a love declaration, understood both as earthly and to Mary, and the latter portraying a symbolic figure of servant, knight, and savior, Le Serviteur, who guides the concert.
With an open heart and a spirit of adventure, our protagonist journeys through the Mass, moving between music and space. This narrative not only ensures the listener stays connected to the unfolding story, but invites them to experience the rituals of the Mass from fresh perspectives, revealing the enduring power of this music even after centuries.
