Tzu-Chi Kuo
Born in 2000 in Tainan, Taiwan, Tzu-Chi began her musical journey at the age of five, studying percussion and piano. Her passion for the recorder was ignited during elementary school when she joined a school ensemble, eventually leading her to study under Imin Hsu at the University of Technology Tainan.
Eager to broaden her horizons, Tzu-Chi pursued further studies in Europe, graduating with distinction in 2022 from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. She then completed her master’s degree in performance at the prestigious Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where she also honed her skills on the harpsichord and traverso.
In 2019, Tzu-Chi co-founded the award-winning sféra ensemble, which specializes in Renaissance recorder music and won first prize at the Tel Aviv International Recorder Competition. Her collaborations with contemporary composers such as Guy Ben-Tov highlight her unique ability to blend early and modern music styles.
Tzu-Chi has performed extensively across Taiwan, Japan, Europe, and Israel, appearing at prominent festivals and concert series including the Utrecht Early Music Festival, ReRenaissance, and Grandezze & Meraviglie in Modena. Whether performing solo or with ensembles, her music is characterized by a deep connection with her audience.
Currently, Tzu-Chi is pursuing a master's in recorder pedagogy at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where she is committed to innovative teaching and sharing her passion for music. Upcoming engagements include performances at the University of Basel’s Dies Academicus.
