Tzu-Chi Kuo

Born in Tainan, Taiwan in 2000.

I was exposed to percussion music for children when I was 3 years old and opened the door to music. At the age of 6, I started to learn piano.

In order to have more interaction with children during elementary school, I joined the recorder group when I was 8 years old. I was not very interested in playing recorders initially. However, I was so lucky to have Ms. Pecky Tseng as the teacher of our group for six years. She taught us how to get along with the instrument, appreciate the music and play recorders joyfully without any burden. I enjoyed playing recorders during this period under her instruction. She encouraged me to take opportunities gathering more experience on the stage. Therefore, I participated in a lot of recorder contests and won many titles either in solo or group.

Starting from 2015, I majored in recorder under Ms. Imin Hsu after entering department of music in Taiwan Tainan University of Technology.

I started to feel more curious about the instruments in my hand and realized that the musical environment at the time limited me.

Subsequently, I decided to go to Europe pursuing more advanced knowledge and experience regarding recorders.

The year 2018, I am very lucky to get this opportunity to study recorder at the University of Performing Arts Graz, Austria with Andreas Böhlen and later with Tabea Schwartz.

It also provides me with the opportunity to learn different early musical instruments, such as tranverse flute and harpsichord.

In 2019, one of the founders of the recorder ensemble sféra, which won first prize at the Tel Aviv Recorder Festival 2020 with a program of renaissance polyphony and the premiere of a piece written in collaboration with the composer Guy Ben-Tov.

In my studies, I also actively participate in various music festivals, and had the pleasure to participate in many Master Classes.
