Perinatal Care Training
Overview
The SFDPH Perinatal Care Training Program is tailored to provide newly graduated or inexperienced Registered Nurses with the essential skills and knowledge required to deliver patient-centered perinatal care within a dynamic and collaborative interdisciplinary team.
Birth Center Overview:
The Birth Center is comprised of 9 LDRP rooms, 3 triage beds, 2 operating rooms, and 12 postpartum/couplet care/ante partum beds.
Essential Job Functions
By participating in this program, you will play a vital role in delivering nursing care to critically ill and injured patients. Your responsibilities will include:
Successfully completing training and orientation programs specific to the Birth Center and Infant Care Center
Providing expert nursing care to ante partum, intrapartum, postpartum, GYN, and well-infant patients within the designated unit
Circulating in the operating room
Implementing medical and nursing care plans to ensure the well-being of patients
Adhering to established protocols and guidelines for comprehensive perinatal care
Maintaining proficiency in all competencies related to the OB/GYN specialty, including participation in specialized training sessions
Upholding a commitment to ongoing professional development
Attending all mandatory meetings and training sessions as stipulated by the Nurse Manager
Ensuring compliance with educational and procedural requirements for continuous improvement
Approaching all job duties with a focus on equity and inclusion
Embracing diversity and promoting an inclusive environment in the delivery of perinatal care
Performing any other related duties as assigned
Training Program Objective
Our objective is to equip you with the following skills and knowledge:
Equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver safe, competent, and equitable nursing care to patients within the Perinatal Care setting
Emphasize the importance of safe and patient-centered care in the perinatal context
Provide comprehensive training to address the unique challenges and requirements of perinatal nursing
Foster an understanding of equitable care practices to ensure all patients receive the highest standard of nursing care
Emphasize the unit's versatility in admitting overflow gynecological patients, showcasing the diverse experiences participants can expect during their training
Provide a holistic training experience that encompasses inpatient, outpatient, emergency, diagnostic, and psychiatric aspects of perinatal care
Support participants in developing a well-rounded skill set that aligns with the hospital's commitment to delivering top-notch healthcare services
Successful Applicant Profile
To thrive in our program, successful applicants should possess the following qualities:
Completion of an Introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring course within the last two (2) years
Possession of a valid Basic Life Support – Healthcare provider certification
Possession of a valid Neonatal Resuscitation Program certificate
Demonstrate interest/knowledge of perinatal care which can include specialty course work, trainings, preceptorships, etc.
Possession of a valid permanent/temporary (including interim permit) California Registered Nurse License
