Critical Care Training
Overview
The SFDPH Critical Care Training Program is tailored to provide newly graduated or inexperienced Registered Nurses with the essential skills and knowledge required to deliver patient-centered critical care within a dynamic and collaborative interdisciplinary team.
Essential Job Functions
By participating in this program, you will play a vital role in delivering nursing care to critically ill and injured patients. Your responsibilities will include:
Ensuring the safety of patients through the delivery of high-quality care across all aspects of their treatment and recovery
Applying the nursing process with precision and expertise in the care of critically ill patients, adhering to ICU standards of care
Administering complex medications with accuracy and attention to detail, in accordance with established protocols
Maintaining concise, complete, and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes to ensure accurate records and continuity of care
Demonstrating critical thinking skills and effective prioritization of care to address the unique needs of critically ill patients
Collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive patient-centered care
Effectively delegating appropriate care and tasks to peers and assistants
Training Program Objective
Our objective is to equip you with the following skills and knowledge:
Equip trainees with the essential skills, knowledge, and abilities to proficiently and safely manage a stable 2-patient Intensive Care Unit assignment upon program completion
Develop a comprehensive understanding of critical care principles and practices, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to critically ill patients
Prepare trainees to confidently and competently function as a vital member of the interdisciplinary critical care team, contributing to the well-being and recovery of patients in a dynamic healthcare setting
Successful Applicant Profile
To thrive in our program, successful applicants should possess the following qualities:
Completed a minimum of one year in Medical-Surgical acute care nursing or successfully finished senior preceptorship in critical care during nursing school
Possess relevant certifications, with preference given to applicants with ACLS certification
Demonstrates a commitment to providing care for vulnerable and underserved patients, especially within the San Francisco community, showcasing a strong foundation for developing crucial ICU skills
Possess a valid permanent/temporary (including interim permit) California Registered Nurse License
