Emergency Care Training
Overview
The SFDPH Emergency Nurse Training Program is designed to equip new graduate or inexperienced Registered Nurses with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide patient-centered emergency care within a dynamic and collaborative interdisciplinary team.
Essential Job Functions
By participating in this program, you will play a vital role in delivering nursing care to critically ill and injured patients in emergency situations. Your responsibilities will include:
Ensuring the safety of patients by delivering high-quality care throughout their treatment and recovery process
Providing specialized care to patients of various age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics, with acute and chronic illnesses and injuries
Applying the nursing process with precision and expertise in the care of critically ill patients, strictly adhering to ED standards of care and scope of practice
Administering complex medications with accuracy and attention to detail, in accordance with established protocols
Maintaining concise, complete, and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes to ensure accurate records and continuity of care
Demonstrating critical thinking skills and effective prioritization of care to address the unique needs of critically ill and injured patients
Collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive patient-centered care
Effectively delegating appropriate care and tasks to peers and assistants
Continuously evaluating personal practice, actively seeking opportunities to expand knowledge, refining skills, and enhancing overall proficiency in emergency nursing
Training Program Objective
Our objective is to equip you with the following skills and knowledge:
Equip trainees with the essential skills, knowledge, and abilities to proficiently and safely manage up to 4 patients simultaneously
Develop a comprehensive understanding of emergency care principles and practices, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients with a wide range of medical conditions and emergencies
Prepare trainees to confidently and competently function as a vital member of the interdisciplinary emergency care team, contributing to the well-being and recovery of patients in a dynamic healthcare setting
Successful Applicant Profile
To thrive in our program, successful applicants should possess the following qualities:
Completed a minimum of one year in an acute care setting as a registered nurse, paramedic, or EMT, or successfully finished senior preceptorship in emergency or critical care during nursing school
Possess a valid ACLS and BLS certification
Possess a valid permanent/temporary (including interim permit) California Registered Nurse License
Demonstrated commitment to providing care for vulnerable and underserved patients, particularly within the San Francisco community
Exhibiting a strong foundation for developing crucial critical thinking skills
