Resources for Addressing Sex in Occupational Therapy

Compiled By: Rachel Bynum, OTS, Mary Kossa, OTS, & Kayleigh Pierce, OTS

The purpose of this resource is to provide tips for addressing sexual activity in the practice of occupational therapy. We have provided a brief overview of models that may be useful in addressing sexuality, as well as specific suggestions and tips for different disability populations. The suggestions we have made here are a baseline and provide some general ideas, but each client should be considered on an individual basis. As a clinician, please assess which suggestions would be most appropriate for your client and follow the general precautions and contraindications that accompany them.
