Body Horror, 2024
Displayed in James E. Booth Hall 1st Floor, Rochester Institute of Technology
This work was displayed in the Booth Gallery on the first floor, in front of Webb Auditorium with other student sculptural works. The assignment was to create a creature or living thing using a cast of one of our body parts, and I chose my thumb.
I cast all of the thumbs individually using a silicone professional-grade cast solution to create the initial cast, and used plaster to create all of the thumbs I needed. I scored and plastered the thumbs together to make the sculpture structurally sound and secure.
RIT Charette - 2022
Displayed in Bevier Gallery, Rochester Institute of Technology
During my freshman year at RIT, all CAD students participate in a yearly Charette even where we create wearable art pieces adhering to a certain theme. For this year's theme, students explored the theme of memory. I ended up winning the competition, and had the honor to walk in Rochester's 2022 Fashion Week with other student winners. My work was displayed in Bevier gallery for a few months after the competition.
Adaptation:
I explored the concept of forgetting and development of diseases like Dementia that significantly impact your working memory. The wearable sculpture I created was representative of how people you once knew become strangers to you, and are perceived as a threat or dangerous.
Creative Process:
We had a week to create our pieces, so I first ideated on paper, settled on a design, created turnaround concepts and began my process by creating an entire helmet-base with cardboard, applying paper mâché on top. I also utilized clay to create the nose, wig hair for hair and eyebrows, false lashes, and false blood for effect. Painted with acrylic paints.
