A customer has bought one of our Asian inspired bird tables. They wanted it fitted onto a stand rather than using the hook as originally intended. No problem, the stand has been made for them.
It doesn't feel right but Christmas will soon be upon us so the Shedders have turned their skills to making some small inexpensive Christmas related products. Contact us if interested or pop into the Abacus Warehouse to see them on our stall and buy them.
We were commissioned by to produce a customised product in a very short timeframe by The Bank of England recently. Pleased to say we managed to do it on time and the client was suitably impressed
The latest cot to bench conversion is proving popular at the site where it is now located
An update on this year's progress with the Owl boxes we made for the Darrent Valley Barn Owl Project
Continuing with the upgrades, a new (well second hand) lathe has now been installed.
We are upgrading some of our equipment to allow us to be able to make products which require a greater degree of accuracy. The first purchase is a Bosch 10J Professional tablesaw. Let's see what the results are once we have taught ourselves how to use it properly.
We have been working on building a new garden bench. Made from reclaimed iron work and new Oak slats, it will shortly be for sale and is viewable at The Abacus Warehouse. Estimated price £110, which is very reasonable compared to a similar commercial product.
We have started to make some nice Single Bee hotels to try and help with the campaigns to increase the population of these endangered creatures. The first one that has been installed has already had one visitor. See the top right hand cell where a bee has laid its eggs and covered the entrance with a leaf. Encouraged by this success we are starting to make more hotels to sell for nearly nothing just to recover our costs in an attempt to get as many into local gardens as possible. Please contact us on the contact page if you would like one.
Many small projects underway at The Shed. e.g. the refurbishment of a very rotten and worn directors chair which has sat under a plastic sheet in a garden for the last 3 years.
Earlier in the year we were commissioned to build a couple of notice boards for providing information and leaflets to visitors at Otford Station. Last week these were unveiled along with the garden which has been recently planted.
One of the things we enjoy the most at The Shed is reusing items or materials to make new things. In the last few weeks we have been working on converting a baby's cot into a garden bench. It's gone well and hopefully will soon be in use at Bradbourne Lakes.

We have reduced the price of our beautiful patio set. It consists of 4 chairs and a table. Chairs are made of Oak slats and Iron frames. Patio furniture of this quality will cost you in excess of £500 at a commercial outlet.
We were asked to make some custom stands for a lady who makes jewellery and trinkets so she can display them. Turned out quite nice and an example of how we can help by making unique pieces when nothing is available commercially.
A very dilapidated bench was given to us by our friends at The Abacus Furniture Project. It was totally rotten so has now been completely renewed and restored. A nice project and a very nice piece of garden furniture that will last ages.
The Shedders have been working on some individual projects. Such as;
One of our members found some of the bird boxes we made for NWKCP installed in the Darent Valley. We are looking forward to hearing that they are being gainfully used by the birds in the near future.
Remember if you want to sponsor a box details can be found at

Overall an interesting project involving many members of the club. The design patterns we were supplied with required some adjustment as there were some inaccuracies in them but these were easilly overcome. If anyone wants copies of the patterns contact us and we can send them to you. Alternatively if you require boxes to be built then again contact us on the Contact page and we will be happy to oblige.
The final boxes have been produced this week, namely two Tawny Owl boxes
Continued work this week on the various Bird Boxes. Most nearly finished so will be delivered and installed soon
Work is proceeding at a pace on the various Bird Boxes. This week One little Owl and Two Kestrel boxes were being worked on.
The Shed has been commissioned by North West Kent Countryside Partnership to build and deliver a number of new Bird nesting boxes. This follows a successful previous order of a substantial number of boxes that have already been deployed and used by the target species of birds. It's great to see a returning customer.
Recently we have welcomed a new member to the Thursday Morning group at The Shed. Rita makes our second lady member. We hope she will be with us for many a while as she brings with her a desire to learn and improve her wood work skills and has a considerable knowledge of Upholstery to pass on.
The Shed was commissioned last year by Darent Valley Community Rail Partnership build and deliver a number of large planters to decorate the platforms on the stations along the Darent Valley.
The Shed was recently commissioned by Bough Beach Reservoir to construct a floating island to be used as a safe nesting location for the Gulls and Turns who make their home at the reservoir .
The project took a number of weeks and design revisions to complete as it is very much a one off construction. It was then successfully launched, sited and is already being used by the birds.
