Many options are available to students when they create their digital portfolios. However, at Salem Elementary, we are going to have students use GoogleSites and folders. Students will set viewing permissions so that only they can edit it, and only certain people, such as teachers, can see the site.
Elementary students are not encouraged to use their last names as part of any information in their portfolio. Students in upper grades may elect to do this on their own for a specific purpose like getting an internship or getting into college.
Parents/students can elect to not actually publish the portfolio to the web (can just be shared with the teacher in draft form) if this is something they want to do.
SHARING SETTINGS
To the right is an menu in GoogleSites that gives students and teachers control over who sees their portfolio site. It can be set for public view (as this site is), or it can be set so that only certain people can edit or view it.
DRAFT
Students* have three draft options:
1. Make their portfolio site public on the web (sign-in is required)
2. Make it available to anyone with a link (sign-in is required)
3. Keep draft mode limited to only the author or selected people.
*Elementary students will not be making portfolios open for the general public to find or view.
PUBLISHING
Students have two publishing options:
1. Make their portfolio site public (no sign-in required).
2. Make it available only to specific people (these Gmail addresses would have to be entered)
*Elementary students will not be making portfolios open for the general public to find or view.
