To develop and implement a balanced assessment system that accurately reflects students’ knowledge of core curriculum standards as well as the ability to collaborate, be creative, communicate, and think critically
The portfolios will be the place where students can store work examples ("artifacts") of their learning that are related to the four "Core Competencies" of graduates as identified by students, teachers, parents, civic groups and district leaders:
Collaboration
Creativity
Communication
Critical Thinking
Educators in Wake County see digital portfolios as doing the following:
Encourage development of a college and career readiness skill that students should have mastered by graduation.
Create a system for balanced assessment across all grade levels.
Help frame a conversation around project and problem-based learning.
Provide an authentic way to teach students how to productively use technology while learning
