Useful Strategies for Specific Behaviors:
Aggression
Goal- Reduce frequency/ intensity through small-group or targeted interventions.
Strategy- Anger management group led by a counselor/ psychologist focusing on triggers, body cues, coping tools, and appropriate expression.
Example- A student joins a group that meets weekly and practices identifying when they're getting upset. The group focuses on using deep breathing and self-talk.
Defiance
Goal- Identify patterns and use targeted supports to increase compliance.
Strategy- Behavior contract: "If I follow directions the first time, I will earn..." (choose reward together).
Example- Student tracks their compliance and checks in with a preferred adult weekly.
Impulsivity
Goal- Provide direct supports for focus and impulse control.
Strategies- CICO paired with goals such as "I can stay in my seat" and "I kept my hands to myself."
Example- Student uses a personalized folder for checklists and visual reminders, in addition to a reward system for on-task behavior.
